Best flight search for multi leg itineraries

Hi All,

Hoping someone can assist, I'm trying to organise a holiday, but will require multi-stops, and all the current options are throwing out ridiculous options (Bangkok to Tokyo - via Sydney? What the?!?!?)

We are hoping to attend a wedding in Koh Samui which is on the 8th November, but want to team it with a holiday elsewhere to make the most out of the trip. Out ideal is Tokyo, but also considering Hong Kong/Singapore.

Proposed itinerary:

BNE - Koh Samui
Koh Samui - Somewhere for connecting flights (either Bangkok, Hong Kong or Singapore from the flight options I can find)
XXX - Tokyo
Tokyo - BNE.

Given I can get the BNE-Tokyo alone for c. $1000, all the options to add in Koh Samui are pushing the prices well over $2k, in some cases closer to $3k!! Ideally would like a price around or less than $1500-$1600.

So the main points are: Leaving in/out BNE - happy to go via SYD/MEL if we have to.
Koh Samui wedding is the 8th. Looking at arriving on 6th, leaving on 10th - but can do a day later for each of these dates.

Tokyo - currently had punched in 11th - 27th November - but pretty flexible really if it makes a difference in price to come back a day or two earlier.

Would love to know the best software to use, or whether you think I should book the BNE-TOK return then buy the Samui flights seperately??

Thanks in advance!

  • Kayak

  • Check the Air Asia website. They run lots of point-to-point flights throughout SE Asia. Other carriers oftern only run flights on major inter-city routes.
    Good luck.

  • Thanks for your replies - tried Kayak but it's trying to take me Singapore to Tokyo via London?!

Might try a travel agent I think!

    Cheers :)

    • Really, what were your search terms?
I'm getting Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo for <$400…

  • I tried matrix.itasoftware.com. Now this website does not allow for purchases just tries to find the cheapest routes. The best I could get was AU$1,679.80 with China Southern but the lay overs are long and multiple stops.

The best thing for you to do is search on Kayak BNE - BKK; BKK - TYO; TYO - BNE. You get Thai airways for $1459 (and direct flights from BNE to BKK and BKK to HND - without having to go to CAN). Link here Then purchase a return from BKK to USM (although you will need to stay overnight in BKK) for around $250.

    Hope that helps.

  • Depending on exact dates of flights and for some fluctuations, you should be able to get the whole trip for approximately $1200:

All flights are with Air Asia
Gold Coast (Brisbane unavailable) to Kuala Lumpur return - About $500
Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok return - About $150
Bangkok to Koh Samui return - Less than $100
Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo return About $450

                                                              TOTAL $1200

Add $100 or less if you need to fly Brisbane to Gold Coast to catch the plane
    Good luck!

  • The Cottage small hotel with room and en suite and tiny outdoor pool is $40 a night. Includes airport transfers. Good value about 10 mins away from BKK airport. Meals extra. Not close to sky train but great value if in transit.

  • Thanks for the tips above. I have managed to sort out my trip!

    BNE to Koh Samui
    koh Samui to Kuala Lumpur
KUL to BNE booked as one leg - $930 - Malaysian airlines/Bangkok airlines

    KUL to Tokyo
Tokyo to KUL booked as a second leg. $500 - Cathay pacific

Overall pretty happy with the price - Can't wait!
