So I just received an unexpected phone call to let me know that I would either need to switch to Vodafone or another carrier by the Crazy John's call centre.
I was on a $25 plan which gave me $200~ of calls/credit (barely anything really) and 1,400mb of data, which I was fairly content with. The call centre offered me a transition to a $25 Vodafone plan which gives me a whopping $300 of calls, and 300mb of data! I politely declined.
So two questions.
What other options are available now in the $15 - $30 price range that give decent (1,500mb+) data? Not to concerned about calls and texts, as long as I can do the occasional text or short call each day I'm happy.
I realise some of the cheaper carriers charge data in 1mb blocks compared to the 1kb (or was it 10kb?) blocks that Crazy Johns did. Any insight into how much data this effectively consumes out of the plan?
Thanks!
This depends on how you use your device. If you have an smartphone and rely on data-consuming widgets for example, your phone will connect to the 3g periodically (start a 3g session) to fetch updated data from the internet and this will consume 1MB of data per session. On a plan with just 300 megs of usage, this gets used up very quickly. Avoid plans like this, they're massive scam.
