Please help me out OzBargainers! (Asus T100 Tablet problem)

Hey guys, I really need your help with this situation i am currently in.

In february this year i purchased an asus t100 tablet from JB HI FI, and what frustrates me the most is when I'm at Uni and it crashes and restarts resulting in me losing all my notes taken. The tablet crashes randomly at random times and sometimes it never responds when i want to turn on the tablet from power off mode. It's still under warranty, when i went into JB HI FI today they just told me to call the asus number which is all they can do. Sounds like they don't want to exchange it or help me repair it in anyway… And so now my only opinion is to send it to repairs? so i have to drive a long distance to repair and all.
And they even said if it was found to be my problem then they would charge me but i'm 100% sure it's their problem. I haven't installed any softwares or anything.

If you guys can help me by telling me my opinions that would be great and much appreciated

Thanks heaps,

An annoyed ozbargainer! :(

What I'd suggest is to call and tell them about fake problems like the tablet getting too hot (worked at apple store) , battery life too bad and the tablet crashing and restarting. If you escalate the problems, they'll be forced to exchange the unit with the new ones since its still under warranty.

Or alternatively, you can just install any third party ROMs and see how it goes but be careful not to go the ways of voiding warranty. Sure that the Custom ROMs will void the warranty under general conditions, but if you backup the current ROM and install the new one (I'd suggest xdaforums.com and go through the tutorials), you should be just fine if you want to send it to ASUS if that doesn't work.
    Good luck!!

      Asus T100 uses windows.

I suggest making sure it's updated to windows 8.1 and all the important updates are installed. Also update any programs you use.

      • Hey, Thanks for the replies guys! I've updated to latest windows 8.1 and installed all updated all to the latest :S

        • I would also try some of the recovery options. Do a search (Windows key + S) and search "Recovery", and select recovery options.
Try each option starting from the top.
You could try "Remove everything" but make sure you've backed your data up first!

    • Hey, thanks for the reply.
It's quite hard for them to exchange the unit for a new one cause they won't do it easily cause i dunno why.. it's still under warranty but their like call up this number they didn't even mention anything close to an exchange or refund D:

  • See similar post here basically the same scenario.

JB as the retailer is obliged to take the tablet in for warranty repair. They cannot fob you off onto the manufacturer. Of course if the manufacturer accepts direct returns from end users, this will be the quickest option. JB may stick in the back room and "forget" to send it for weeks until you ring up and ask them what's happening.

It is pathetic they are trying to dodge their legal obligations, but there you go. You won't get a replacement from JB. It will be sent away from repair. Even Apple now is moving from a replacement model to a fixing model.

Asus customer care for repair are easy to deal with - call them, they will note down the issue, walk through a couple of "potential fixes" over the phone, if not resolved, they will arrange courier pick up within a day and normally would get returned to you (by courier) within a week. I have dealt with them twice and have no complaints at all about their service.

  • Hey guys thanks very much for your help and I went back with an Asus reference number and they happily exchanged the item for me! Although JB HI FI told me to call them up at first they helped me through it! Thanks everyone for your help :)!

My friend had a similar problem with the T100 crashing, he sent it back and its currently getting replaced through Asus. Good that you got your query resolved :)
