Halogen downlights swapped for LEDs for free in VIC

I don't think this is classified as a deal, plus it's hard to find links and info. But basically, I stumbled across it while trolling through Gumtree's freebies section. Saw a whole bunch of electricians offering free LED downlights installed through a government scheme

The common ones being advertised being used are Primsal Brand

Decent light, warm color and runs cooler than halogen

The installer told me that this scheme is a couple of months old and not many people are aware of it.
I've had them go around to some family members and friends to get the globes replaced.

From the history on here, the LED's were discounted but not free until recently.

Call up your local sparky, or jump on gumtree to see electricians in your area offering this
Let's all OB'ers get onto it!

    No out of pocket? Don't pay for the LED's or the electrician?

      well they take your halogens away, but that's it.

    Yea no money involved at all. You sign a document at the end stating the work was done.

    Sounds like a good deal, I am sure a lot of people with halogen lighting would appreciate it. Thanks for sharing, even though I don't have halogen downlight.

    Interesting deal. Keep in mind that the LED light you've linked claims 440lm, while a standard 50w halogen is 900lm, so you're getting around half the brightness.

      this is true, so i beleive its 60% of the light with 80% saving of electricity

      However after having the LED's installed, I don't see any difference in brightness. More than enough to light up the rooms. Maybe I had low output halogens to begin with.
