Haggling at Officeworks

Hi fellow ozbargainers,

I am about to buy some furniture from officeworks, is it actually possible to haggle there if I buy few things at once?

I went to one of the store and one of them said it is not possible, is this really the case that they are fixed price just like a supermarket?

Thanks for the help

  • Yeah, although it works better if the same thing is advertised for less some place else.

  • For retail, it really depends how many things you are buying and how much for. I wouldn't get my hopes up though, as even if they would discount, it would be fairly minimal. Plus, it depends how the sales person/manager are feeling on the day.

Pretty much, Officeworks, Coles, KMart, Target etc. all owned by Wesfarmers.

  • of course you can haggle !!! show them the cheaper price elsewhere and haggle away :)

  • I suspect thay have monthly sales targets to meet, so suggest you go there today (30th July) or tomorrow (31st July). End of month is generally the best time to haggle………

  • Depends what you're buying and how much you're spending. If you're only spending a couple hundred, probably wont get much.

  • Is this a serious question!?!?!?

Of course you can try haggling! All the usual tricks like end of the month or end of the qtr may be even better. Do some research into the best price. Nothing stopping you asking, you can even call up a few places for a quote. You might save nothing or you might save quite a few $$$ by asking a simple question.

I have little shame with haggling, I've tried it at Burberry. Didn't work, and it was pretty funny. But i was certainly going to give it a go when the assistant tried to sell me floor stock.

  • +2

FYI - I worked previously at Officeworks' Head Office. The stores can not override the sell price which is set at Head Office. The managers can only marked down ex returns and demo/floor stocks and price beat a competitor's advertised price. Save your breadth haggling. Your best option is go to them when someone else have it on special (and in stock) and get another 5% off.

  • You took the words right out my mouth.

It's like asking Louis Vuitton to discount a handbag, tell me if that ever works.
