    Funny, Japanese company selling a product that would have almost no demand in their home market.

    I sometimes joked about getting my Japanese wife a hair straightener. At least it would never wear out.

      My understanding is that this is quite popular in Asia, even for those with naturally straight hair. What this does is that it makes your hair very straight ("poker straight"), so you have absolutely no frizz or fly-aways at all. It also makes your hair shiny as well. Some claim that it repairs split ends (but that's just marketing…)

      I have pretty straight hair - have had hairdressers comment "your hair is so straight! - but some hairdressers still run my hair under a hair straightener before they cut my hair, and I can definitely see a difference post-straightener. It looks very sleek. However, not enough of a difference to go and buy one though, but then again, I am an OzBargainer…

        Yep. it isn't uncommon to have slight kinks in naturally straight hair. So basically if you want it to look straight you still have to go over it with a straightener or blow dry it. Shiseido is a very good brand.

      and I would expect you go there and are told "oh your hair is weak, recommend extra condition treament first" for another $30-50.
