Woolworths Select Ice Cream 1L $4 (Was $6.98)

110

In this weeks catalogue, it's not a bad cheaper alternative to Connoisseur, which too is on sale at the moment at Coles for $6.

Comes in a few flavours:

Vanilla

Cookies & Cream

Honey, Caramel & Macadamia

I've tried the Vanilla and Cookies & Cream and they were pretty good. Is Connoisseur worth an extra $2 more? I dunno- you buy it and let us know!

The Honey, Caramel & Macadamia is pretty nice but I still prefer the Aldi range. And think they are only $5 all the time. Still a nice price for this though.

    • I agree the Aldi brand Indulge premium ice cream is very good. I would say it's as good as Connoisseur, at least for the Cookies and Cream flavour. $4.69 standard price.

  • I've tried the cookies and cream, and it's pretty good. To put into context, connisour is $2 or 50% more exxy.

I think I'll take 50% more volume of this stuff, tastes just as good to me.

For $2 extra I'll take Connoisseur, this stuff tastes inferior.

Try to be philosophical about these things - on the one hand as an OzB'er, I like to save money. On the other hand, I loathe the movement towards the store/house brands. Every time they bring their own brand to the shelves, a national or local brand gets marginalised.

No doubt, the big 2 would like nothing better than to sell their own brands exclusively - I just can't support that process

What's wrong with store brands as long as they are good quality. Supermarkets in many countries like the UK sell a much larger percentage of house branded products than supermarkets in Australia.

      • Exactly! It's a downward spiral.

      • No incentives for companies to create new/innovative products

what's wrong is these behavior is unethical, i don't mind local supermarket create their own brand from the ground, but i hate they simply knockoff big brand, copy the colour, package design, without invest in marketing but harvest the fruit.

I was very surprised to discover some people are really short-sighted, most of the public activities was supported by brand marketing, kill independent brand means you will get less free TV program, more expensive public transport (less marketing spending on tram, train and bus) and basically more expensive of everything. Why? because big two is not going to give away the unethical profit back to the society. They break the circuit, you enjoy the low price at short-term, and eventually pay higher price at the long term.

But of course, who cares, same thing happened in election as well, everyone will love the party who give the money, and heat the party ask them to work harder and improve productivity.

Independent brand? Streets is Unilever, Peters is some European company.. I think Bulla is still Australian but the majority of products at WW and Coles are brands of big multinationals. Rich get richer you know. Coke bought Golden Circle and SPC, Cadbury bought Natural Confectionary Company, Arnotts owned by Yanks etc etc etc

  • if only they did chocolate and peanut butter…

    • Buy chocolate flavour, and peanut butter flavour and combine to your taste…

  • To me this is more like just cream rather than cookies and cream.. ive only had it once and never again! seriously they might have actually forgot to add them in… Luckily you can take it back and get a new flavour and a refund! Aldi is definitely better and worth the extra $1
