Jetstar 2 for 1 Japan Sale, Gold Coast -> Tokyo Return from $926 (2 people)

1230

Cheapest Japan flights have been in a while. Baggage and credit card fees extra. Obviously this these need to have 2 people going to get the good price. Also these flights are scheduled to be on their new Dreamliner planes. With these the seating pattern is 3/3/3 rather than the previous 2/4/2 so might be worth keeping an eye on seat selection and doing it if the seats start filling up.

Have to book through the special Jetstar page to get these prices, through their normal search just gives the normal prices for all.

It says $302 one way then "2 for 1". But then it doubles the price for 2 adults. I don't get it.

    • I had a similar issue, anyone can resolve this?

    • Same here…

    • +2

$302 is half the normal price already for wherever your are flying from for those days. It then doubles the half price for 2 people.

      Hope that helps :)

      • haha you are right thanks. Sadly they are only available this year from adelaide. Not sure why they advertised next year when I checked right away and there was not one flight 2 for 1 in the time period

  • I managed to get 4 return tickets for $2097, so i guess it's working.

  • ;( no Adelaide > Osaka

Perth is in Australia you know, Jetstar?!

I feel sorry for you guys - Aus Post treats you like a third world nation too.

Thinking to do a One way.. from Sydney > Tokyo/Osaka… Can anyone recommend some other cheap destination to goto from Tokyo/Osaka for say… under $300?

    • Taiwan.

    • +5

      north korea - $1 tix before :)

      • And then a quick stroll over the border for a South Korea day trip?

    • For $300 return from Tokyo/Osaka, Pretty much most of Asia on a LCC. In Japan Okinawa
or International South Korea,Philippines,Taiwan,China,Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand etc

    • Check jetstar japan website for other internal flights. http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/cheap-flights/japan Can get a $45 flight from Osaka to Fukuoka or Kagoshima for a few days.

  • Same. No 2 for 1 applied for return or one way.

  • Sydney to Osaka for $563.12 return each!

    • I have no idea about the tix to Japan or 2 for 1 with Jetstar so is that cheap? Or is that normal price? Because I just checked webjet and its double the price with Qantas though…

      • I think it's normally around that price for 1 way flights to Japan.

  • While its cheap…. its not really that cheap, got 2 tickets return, direct from Melbourne for $1100 in the last sale a few months ago. Yes this is $200 cheaper, but my flight are from Melbourne, not Gold coast. My flights hadn't been 2for1 flights.

    • Check the links, it's like ~$1000 for 2 people, $100 is big money in my books.

      • It might be a bit unclear in my first post, but my $1100 was for 2 people as well, flying out of Melbourne.

These had been booked under 'normal' conditions and not the so called super cheap 2 for 1 conditions. My flights are from Melbourne, so the extra $200 is pretty cheap for 2 return tickets from Melbourne to the gold coast to catch this so called cheaper flight ;)

        • I'm getting $966 return from Melbourne actually. Not bad!

        • +2

No I understood it, I'm saying it's still $100 cheaper than your flight on the exact same location. This is a genuine bargain.

        • +1

          @plmko: Unless you're flying single ;)

    • Jetstar's 2 for 1 sale is as cheap as their Japan flights get normally.

Have been a few times, and the first time after all fee's etc during a 2-4-1 sale was about $550 each return. Am going again and this time a normal sale, about $660 return (this sale includes the dates too, which hurts but you never know whether the dates we want to go are going to be included in a sale if it happens anyway)

Would have saved about $200 by waiting for this one, but we've booked all accommodation a month ago and it was already really expensive or full.

      • It might be a bit unclear in my first post, but my $1100 was for 2 people as well, flying out of Melbourne.

So $550 each for a return flight, flying out of Melbourne vs $463 for flying out of the Gold coast.

        • +1

it's $490 return per person from Melbourne though

        • Very self-centered.

$4xx for return trip from any cities is a good deal.

        • @letmecry: Self centered? Oh sorry… I should be bouncing of the walls that you can get a cheap flight out of a city at the other end of the country from where I am. Hey but its a bargin if you over look the fact its $200 pp for return flights from my location to where the 'cheap flight' flies out of. YAY!!!

        • @Level380:

While its cheap…. its not really that cheap, got 2 tickets return, direct from Melbourne for $1100 in the last sale a few months ago. Yes this is $200 cheaper, but my flight are from Melbourne, not Gold coast.

I think people are trying to point out that your claim about it being $200 cheaper only because it's NOT flying out of Melbourne is incorrect because it's actually cheaper with this deal.

  • +2

I don't think kimplode will be interested in this deal.

  • Does anyone know if Jetstar (or any other airline) do deals to Japan early April?

As this sale only has dates for 21 Apr onwards :(

  • Service Unavailable anybody?

    • Yep got it too, if you're desperate try their mobile site.

  • Travelled last Sep to Osaka with Jetstar special back then and paid $7xx for 1 person ex-Syd.

Transit time in Gold Coast is not too bad. There is not much to do and food is expensive and rubbish at the waiting area though.

If they have deal like this I will go Osaka/ Kyoto every year!

Going Japan again but I have alredy booked Cathay earlier this year at $76x…

    • Take a cab ($6 maybe) to all you can eat Pizza Hut. Winning

  • the travelling dates? is it possible to go on next feb for skiing there?

    • Nope

  • Buying from Japan is always more expensive

    • Yes I don't understand how they can do that, last year I booked a one way ticket from Tokyo to Melbourne to join my friend on a return flight. I paid $550 one way versus his return flight being $560. I asked Jetstar why this is the case, they tried to BS me with excuses like airport taxes and exchange rate, after I explained to them that taxes and exchange rates don't suddenly double the cost they hung up on me. Absolutely rude company.

      • Airline pricing is voodoo at the best of times. Even business and first have anywhere from 2-4 different price brackets depending on anything from how far in advance you bought to how many seats there are left. Economy probably has half a dozen different fare buckets even on relatively small planes, and on big ones like A380s and 747s probably more like 10-15.

It's not uncommon for two people to be sitting next to each other travelling exactly the same flights to have paid fares 5x apart in price.

Even that aside, all else being equal, international one-way flights are almost always a substantial fraction of the equivalent return airfare (NZ seems to be the exception to that - maybe Indonesia as well ?). Those of us old enough will remember when domestic flying was the same, and one-way tickets cost 75-90% of a return. :)

  • Anyone want to split a trip to Tokyo on September 9th?!

    • I have a friend that is travelling 15/10/2014 - 27/10/2014 who is willing to split, from Melb to Tokyo (Narita), if you're from Melbourne

  • All these people that have been to Japan on cheap flights before…where did you stay, what cities etc if you were going for 7-10 days?

    • +2

Went for 14 days. Stayed in Hostels mostly (Ks house where we could) except for the last 2 nights where we stayed in 5* star luxury thanks to my employee discount rates for this particular chain of hotels making the hotel as cheap as a hostel. :)

Tokyo > Kawaguchiko (Awesome town near Mt Fuji which i recommend going for a ride around) > Kyoto > Osaka > then home was our journey. https://goo.gl/maps/qMpDy

I want to go back but just need to find someone to go with.

We went over in 2009 on a deal similar to this one. Japan is one of my favourite places.

7-10 days would be a good amount in Tokyo alone. Don't forget they have two Disneyland parks in Tokyo.

    • If you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay check out airbnb. Plenty of options from whole houses to shared rooms…

Not good deal for single like me. Bad bad

    • Why not meet someone and split?

Thanks, $2700 for 2 adults, 2 kids and 1 baby including luggage, seat selection and entertainment…we'll take our own food :-)

How did you buy the toddler seat by itself? I was trying to do that for my 2 yr old and couldn't.

      • +1

If they are under 2 they don't get their own seat and have to sit on your lap.

Anybody willing to split in October for 2.5 weeks?

    • From Sydney to Tokyo and most likely late october!

  • booked!

  • Booked!! thank you! $1524 for 2 adults including baggage, meal, entertainment and seats. - Sydney to Osaka

    • I'm certainly not getting that price! $2200 for dates within 21april-31may 2015…

  • Just got back from 6 weeks in Italy/Hong Kong. Just booked 3 weeks in Japan in December.

    Why do I feel guilty?

Is it safe to go to Japan? Their nuclear reactor meltdown is the worst in history. It is far far away from Tokyo but is it worth the risk? I wish I went there before the meltdown

    • surely Chernobyl is worse?

  • Obviously they aren't worried about competing with Airasia in the west! Even Garuda is cheaper to/from NRT

  • Thanks OP. I went to Japan last year through Qantas by using the Expedia Brazil trick(around $750 Sydney-Tokyo each). It's direct flight & 30kg luggage included.

Never flew with Jetstar before, so two questions:

    1. I understand you have to book 2 people at once, but is it possible just add $55 for 20kg for one person only? My wife doesn't need to lug the big trunk. I didn't see the option when I tried.

    2. Do I have to pay to choose the seat now when I make the booking? Can I choose them later or not choosing at all? I understand the risk of arriving not sitting together. Maybe arriving early at the airport would suffice.

Much appreciated if anybody has some exp can explain. Thanks a lot!

    • +1

      Hey wowoyu,

      1. Yes you can just add 20kg each way for only 1 of the 2 people. Its $35 each way though, so $70 all up.

      2. Nope don't have to choose now. Can choose later and pay $7 per leg per person then, or never choose. Usually i check a few times before we go, and if its looking full pay. Otherwise check in 48hrs early online and get them for free. On a 3/3/3 setup, we always want two of the middle 3. Otherwise you are always annoying someone to get out, or someone is annoying you. Its an awful seating setup.

      • Thanks so much, Cheers!

Anyone that's been during the start of Dec? Is there much snow yet?

    • It depends where you go, in Tokyo it doesn't usually start snowing until late Jan/early Feb.

      • How about in Osaka, Kyoto & Hokkaido?

        • Sorry I'm not an expert ;) Google is your friend.

  • Anybody wants to purchase ticket (return) with me? Depart on 1-7th Nov. and Return on 25-30th Nov.

    • Is that from Sydney to Tokyo?

  • Anyone interested in wed 15th october (melb to tokyo) or return mon 27th october (Tokyo to melb). Either just the one flight or both?
