Yes you've also just missed the sale by JETstar that was offering $49 one way.
Searching for Perth - Melbourne (Tullamarine) in JETstar, the best you can get these days travelling somewhere between 2-8 January are $189 one way (ie. $378 return). If you are still desperate for a cheaper price, I have three suggestions.
Change your travelling date to a less peak season time.
Check Virginblue.com.au every 10-11AM Perth time daily, to see if there's any sale ticket during the happy hour.
My guts are telling me there could be another sale by Jetstar on the 12th October. Although most likely it won't be another Perth - Melbourne. But this is only my pure prediction.

You can try searching on http://www.webjet.com.au … They compare fares on Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Qantas side by sides. Don't buy on the website though as it charges extra fees. Compare the fares at webjet but book at their official airline websites.
Too bad, Tiger fares are not included in the Webjet website.

You've just missed the 39 dollars deal for a one way trip between PER-MEL by Tiger Airways which ended 2 days ago.
Currently, from the Tiger Airways website, on Perth-Melbourne route, you can get a total of $450 return, while on Jetstar the lowest fare is $398 return.
