Huntkey Powerboards with Dual USB Ports - Experiences?

Hi all, first time posting a topic here.

Recently bought a 4x outlet Huntkey Powerboard (off eBay - also available in 6x and 8x, eg. http://www.msy.com.au/notebook-acc/9037-huntkey-sac604-6-out… ) that also has 2 usb ports supposedly able to output 2.1A each.

Received it today, and first thing I checked was if it was able to output this current to my devices. Used current widget off the Google Play Store on my Nexus 5, 7(2013) and moto G. Compared the reading with a 1A wall charger and was disappointed. Seems the current output from the usb ports are no where near 2.1A (around 200-700mA, fluctuates a fair bit on each device - the nexus 5 was constant at 300mA). The 1A wall charger remained at a steady 900-1000mA on all devices. I realise this may not be the most accurate way of testing, though does provide enough evidence to see that it's not as advertised - unless I'm missing something.

So, does anyone have any experience with this Huntkey Powerboard with Dual USB Ports? If so, do you think the usb ports are outputting anywhere near 2.1A?

Thanks!

  • The USB charging ports were just added as an afterthought to the power board, and are not made with quality in mind. In short, you shouldn't use these. I would probably recommend a Kensington Absolute Power which will, in theory, supply 2.1 amps per port.

You're supposed to avoid these kinds of usb chargers, they are not made to any sort of standard specificed by your phone or tablet manufacturer, so expect varied results in terms of charging speed.

    • righto, that's unfortunate, cheers.
