but wouldn't it be better with actual beer?

The last deal they had was with Dos Equis XX lager beer. Considering their target market - people who care about beer - it would have been hard to pick worse product. I literally could not give away the two six packs I got with my subscription. Perhaps they learned that rather than give horrible beer to beer drinkers, they might as well give away cider to beer drinkers, hoping that they would not be so discerning.

BTW: This is definitely not a bargain. The magazine has been offering free booze for annual subscribers for a long time now.

      • I got sail & anchor larks foot with my last renew. Not a bad drop =)

      • So how is ginger beer made then?
I could gave sworn it was brewed, and just checking again… Yep, 'Beer & BREWER' magazine.

A worse product would have been a half dozen reds, for example.

        • You're reading out of context. I was asserting that Dos Equis XX is a crap beer. It was a poor choice of beer to try to sweeten the deal for a subscription to a publication that is clearly targeted at people who are enthusiastic about beer.

I've made no comment about the current subscription deal, ginger beer or Crabbies.

My reference to cider was a deliberate one as well. If you have been paying attention to the market place, you have probably noticed that the variety and shelf space that was allocated to beer has been taken over by various ciders.

          @peteru:
I reckon linton was reading it IN context. Your comment that:
"Perhaps they learned that rather than give horrible beer to beer drinkers, they might as well give away cider to beer drinkers, hoping that they would not be so discerning."
was made in the context of this deal that has been posted. To me it implies that you believe the deal being offered is for "cider". You made no reference at all to the much broader topic of beer sales/shelf space loosing market share to cider.

This is doubley misleading as there certainly are some beverages that label themselves "ginger beer" that are much closer to being a cider.

          Also, you say:
"I've made no comment about the current subscription deal, ginger beer or Crabbies."

If that's the case then you surely you should not be negging the current deal.

I signed up my dad for this for christmas last year..
there was an error in their system, and they never sent the magazine..
only got around to letting them know now, and they have sent the previous magazines, and given us the subscription until autumn, as well as the 12pack.

Have subscribed to the magazine for several years now, it's a good read if you're into the beer scene/craft beers/brewing yourself.

They have ongoing promotions for a "free dozen/slab/however many" of different beers/similar, and it changes every few months. I think when I signed up it was a slab of Kosciusko pale ale (A beer that was pretty disappointing in bottles, but actually drinkable on tap)

Worth signing up now if you do like the sound of the ginger beer. If not, wait a few months and look again.

  • I have to say, the raspberry Crabbies is very, very nice. Well worth it for $30/case.

  • thanks for posting. got a subscription as a gift

  • has anyone who subscribed received a confirmation email? I only have my paypal receipt…

I got a confirmation email. Might want to contact them.

  • got my voucher the other day, ceen to see if anybody else got one and compare the barcodes after redeeming (photocopy it)
If the are the same there may be a free booze voucher going up on OzB soon
