  • Saw Bob Jane advertised buy 3 Yokohama tyres get 1 free. Not sure if it is better value than this though.

    • Last time I got tyres changed at Bob Jane. I got:
      * $50 cashback from Bridgestone
      * $100 from Bob Jane for buying 4 tyres in one go
      * a ridiculously low price for Adrenaline RE002 tyres ($165 each, instead of ~$230) because their system had quoted me incorrectly.

      I left happy.

      • How do you get $100 from Bob Jane? Is this still available? I am interested in the RE002 too, don't think it will be $165 each now right?

        • That was 2 years ago. Only reason they quoted $165 was because the tyres I was after was a size they did not originally had. They could get it, but it wasn't in the system so it defaulted to $165, which was the cheapest size of RE002. The size I actually needed was much more expensive, but they stuck to their quote.

        • @Make it so: You were very lucky. I got a quote for $197 per tyre from Bob Jane, I am waiting for quotes from Bridgestone's participating stores at the moment and will see what the best deal will be.

So far the $660 for 4 YOKO C.drive2 AC02 is the cheapest for me. But if Bridgestone can quote me better than $197 per tyre for the RE002, and on top with the $100 back, it will be a good deal too.

        • @Make it so: @maogua:

What size tyres are you both talking about? Because different sizes obviously will come at different prices!

        • @Snoop: Mine is 225/45 R17

        • @maogua: you won't get RE002 for less than $200 at that size. Try go up to 235/45/17 you can get one for around $187

        • @wtfnodeal: Will using the 235 have any side effect for my car? I did notice 235 is cheaper, but the mechanic from my local told me not to use diff size than what I am using.

P.S. Bob Jane has given me $197 per tyre, do you think Bridgestone will price match coz Bob Jane is not part of the participating store for this deal… I also called local K-Mart and they said they will price match, but i doubt they will offer the $100 back tho…

        • @maogua:
Not a bad option, but depending on your car it may not be recommended.
I'm assuming you've got a Jap or Euro? The 235 is more common here hence the price. They're a little taller so will throw the speedo out (usually bringing it closer to your true speed); they'll wear a little better due to less rotations over distance; have a little wider contact patch with the road so a very slight improvement in grip; but will deter very slightly in handling due to a slightly taller sidewall. Really there's not that much between the two, but a lot of Japs and Euros only run on a 7" wide wheel which (from memory, and I'll check it tomorrow) is not legal to run a 235 on!
What make, model, year & can you check the rim size?

        • @maogua: ask Bridgestone to price match. Otherwise you will still pay too much even after the $100 off promotion. Ask them if your car or wheels can fit 235 or not they will tell you immediately. I upsized from 225 to 235 couldn't feel any side effects but maybe my wheels are 7.5" wide or above.

        • @Snoop: It is a Peugeot 308SW 2012 model, do you think it will work. One thing i have to ask is that the spare wheel is having a 225 on it, if I ever need to use it, is it gonna be a problem with 3 other wheels on 235 and one on 225?

        • @maogua:
I was right about the wheel sizing… It has to be at least a 7.5" to run the 235. I was hunting through specs for your car on the net, but it'd be easier if you check your spare for size!

Also, just looking at some pricing, and unless there has been a special on the 235s recently, they should only be a couple of dollars cheaper than the 225s!

Personally, I'd just be sticking with the 225s on your car. It keeps it original, it'll match up with the spare if needed, it's been set up to run with this size and there isn't really much financial gain!

Edit: These promos usually come out of a marketing budget from head office and not the stores directly, so it shouldn't affect them quoting you a reasonable price. Bob Jane's $197 isn't a bad price (should be costing them about $145) but I think a Bridgestone store should be able to do a little better than that!

        • @Snoop: Thank you so much Snoop and wtfnodeal for all the info and they are extremely helpful. I was about to book my car in for the RE002 and thought I would do a last research on the tyre. I found that people on Whirlpool were talking about it and most said it will not last long which is a bit disappointing.

My current tyres are the Contact Sport 3 and the front tyres only last less than 20000km (I think the heavy diesel engine and heated seats contribute to that), that was very bad i think. Will the RE002 last longer than that? Seeing the reviews makes me want to jump back to the YOKO C Drive 2 deal.

I am so confused now… maybe I should just draw from the hat since they are the same price with the current deals…

          @maogua:
OK, CSC3 is a nice tyre built for comfort & good handling. The RE002 would be comparable in handling (maybe a little better) but not as nice to drive on and I would imagine most likely to wear a little quicker. Cdrive will be quiet and comfortable but not quite as good a handling tyre. Should wear as well as the Conti if not better. With the 4 for 3 deal the Yokis should work out a little cheaper by all rights!
One thing I'd suggest with your car is rotating the tyres a little more frequently, maybe every 5000-7000km to get more even wear across all 4 so that the fronts aren't wearing out in half the time!
Tough call, but like i said below, I'd be thinking the Yokis if you want a good all round tyre and the Bridges if you want a little more performance. Depends on your driving??? But I think with the deal the Yokis should be coming in cheaper!!!

    • @ wtfnodeal - No ambiguity here. You're not comparing the same tyres - and it will be very subjective based on individual needs.

    • You cant go wrong with either Yokos or Bridgies.

      • Yes you can… BS also make a cheap Chinese tyre in the MY01, now MY02 pattern.
There's nothing wrong with it, but compared to the premium Jap patterns!!!

  • Does anyone know how this compares to current CostCo promotions?

    • what promo are they currently running?

      • They had $70 off a set of 4 which expired last weekend.

  • Is the C drive2 AC02 from Yoko any good? How is it compare to the RE002?

    • +1

2 completely different tyres. Cdrive is a good all round mileage and comfort orientated tyre, whereas the Adrenalin is mid level / club car performance orientated!

      • So for family car with kids, Cdrive will be a better choice i guess. How about durability and noise level? Is the YOKO good?

What other tyres would you recommend with the current special offers? Cheers…

        • Definitely if it's for the family car! The Cdrive was their mid level tyre aimed at giving a little better performance and comfort than the Adrive or now BluEarth. The newish Cdrive2 Eco supposedly gives slightly better wear and noise levels again!
Others to consider would be the Bridgestone or Toyo, and slightly cheaper on Kumho or Hankook, but if you can get a good deal on the Yoki for the same sort of price with the '4 for 3' deal you wouldn't go wrong!
Obviously a lot depends on your car, tyre size, type of driving, etc. And of course budget. But remember, it usually only works out to cost about $1-$2 more per week for a good tyre over a cheap one over the life of the tyres!
