from what i remember, if its over $100 u can claim

    • It should be more than $300 in single receipt no?

      • Correct

        • Receipt should be over $300
        • You should be able to present the items if they demand to check
        • At TRS they will randomly check one or more items to match item brand and description (serial numbers for electronics)
        • It doesn't matter if you are wearing them or they aren't in their packaging.
        • Receipt shouldn't be more than 60 days old.

Can be on multiple receipts, just have to be within the last 60 days.

        • I thought it had to be a single transaction in the same store? Or is it okay over multiple receipts as long as it is the same store?

  • you can claim anything that has australian abn on it, more than $300 and less than 2 months
The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) lets you claim a refund of the goods and services … They are purchased in the 60 days before you leave Australia, and; Your …

  • I think you can claim but if you come back with the shoes, then you are supposed to declared and return the GST back to the govt. I think the scheme is aim for goods that left the country for good.

seriously…who really declare that when they're coming back? Not me though :P

    • You don't have to pay GST back even if you declare to bring them back.

      • You do if they're over a certain amount, $1,000 I believe?

      • I think if you read the TRS claim receipt, at the back it says something like that. I once claim GST back for a phone under TRS, when I come back 1 week later with the phone, I am really worried that I will be ask about it or the custom will check whether I bring back the phone, as I did not declare that I am bringing it back.

    • The law required you to declare if the total value exceeds $900, and you'll have to pay tax for the whole amount, not just that exceeding the threshold, but there are some exceptions like clothes (I can't find the reference now).

  • Don't forget the shoes would be wormed out on your return. So it will depreciate! Even if it's $1000, on return it might worth only $700.
