Vinomofo MOFO SECRET DEAL Cabernet Merlot 2011 3 Gold Medals $141 6pack + $9 $25 Credit New User

30

Pretty positive this is Brookland Valley Cabernet Merlot 2011. This wine won gold at Sydney Royal Wine Show and Royal Queensland Wine Show in 2013, the winery is 5 Red Star Halliday rated, and the RRP is listed as $47 in the 2014 Halliday Wine Companion. $23.50/bottle or $141 a 6 pack plus $9 shipping. RRP $47/bottle (Wine Companion 2014).

'A beautiful Cabernet blend from one of the best up West, this magnificent drop has been crowned with a list of accolades which would impress even the most discerning of critics. We're talking triple gold, dual 95 points and 5 coveted Red Stars from Halliday. Impressive yes but that's not what sold us on this wine. From the first twist of the Stelvin (yes, Stelvin!), it felt like we had unleashed a super intense, dark berry monster onto our palates. Juicy plums laced with seductive chocolate and notes of mint pulled us in from the get-go and even had us fighting for the last drop…'.

A list of other 'Secret Society' wines on offer today too.

  • I've always wondered this but if the wine is this good, how come they just dont sell it under it's label and just discount it slightly?

  • +1

The profit is similar and they can shift large volumes quickly.

Maybe 60%-70% of the typical cost of bottle bought retail is shop and distributor mark ups amount.

The downside is that people get used to paying low prices and a brands lose their value.

Funnily, 2010 St Henry was sold at typical shop prices. Vinomofo's claim of being the 'last ever cases' was shown to be a lie when places like Winestar recently sold new stock. Penfold's have a new policy of keeping back stock IIRC.

  • When I received this email in my inbox, I immediately went to www.ozbargin.com.au hoping "Sweet3st" had posted what the wines were. My thoughts where that this was a Brookland Valley wine, you've proven me right. No pressure "Sweet3st" but some of us are "sweating" on your wine analysis. Keep up the good work!

    • Glad the info helped gr!

  • The Six Foot Six pinot noir is still available for $7.50/bottle, http://vinomofo.com/deals/red-wine/black-market-deal-pinot-n…. Also the Hunter Chardonnay for $6.90 I'm pretty sure is the James Estate Reserve, http://vinomofo.com/deals/white-wine/black-market-deal-hunte….
