As part of its layoffs of 18,000 people, announced on July 17, Microsoft is cutting 12,500 of those it acquired as part of its deal to buy Nokia's handset and services division. Among those employees are both professionals and those involved in manufacturing, as well as those who've been working on the Nokia X Android-based phones.

    R.I.P Nokia. Died 2014
As a Windows Phone lover, Nokia was better pre-takeover.
All the unique design features are gone for blocks.
The Nokia X was a smart idea to capture people over to WP by using Microsoft services on an Android phone.

End of an era. Who would have thought when Nokia was at its height less than 10 years ago.

nokia died many years ago when they switched to windows for their operating system

  • OMG. speechless. RIP Nokia.

  • I've got a samsung cheapo phone as a backup, works fine.

    $39

  • who says they wont make cheap windows phones? they already have a nokia 520 smart phone that does a whole lot for $99. i'm sure they can make even cheaper ones.

    • who says they wont make cheap windows phones?

Nobody did ? I don't think you fully understood the article or the term 'feature phone'.

  • so are you saying Nokia won't be making any more Windows phones? what happened to their Meego system?

    • It's more like the Nokia company and brand won't exist anymore. My assumption is that Microsoft will rebrand Nokia phones and tablets as purely "Microsoft Lumia" and to ditch the Nokia name from future devices.

Nokia has factories based in , Brazil, China, Hungary, India, Mexico, and S. korea. Not sure if all or some of these are going to be shut down or maybe sold off to another company.

With 12000 employees laid off from the Nokia division I think it's very likely this is the last we'll ever hear of Nokia.
