With me picking it up, it came to $144.83 ($141.99 + 2% paypal fee)

    • Why were you changed the 2% fee?

      • Mwave have a 2% paypal handling fee

          PayPal's Policy states:

4.6 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

So unless they have a handling fee of 2.1% for Cash/Bank - this is a no-no by PayPal's standards (Bless them)

Mwave have a 2% paypal handling fee

          just because it's against PayPay's policy won't stop them…

it's not as if they gave a toss about policies, rules or the law in the past…

          @jv:

What kind of discount can we get, I wonder, in return for not reporting them to Paypal?

  • Im just wondering about this drive…

Since I mainly use an Apple iMac I know its way too much drama to benefit from a SSD drive, installation etc.. :(

    But

I also have a laptop which is a couple of years old, running Windows Vista. Can I put this SSD into the laptop? Would it be of much benefit ?

Sorry to sound lame, but I know there are heaps of people on here who know way more than me with regards this sort of stuff :)

    Cheers

    pookie

    • A SSD will benefit most machines as they run a lot quicker than HDDs.

    • Sure can!

I've 'resurrected' quite a few notebooks with an SSD, extra RAM (max it out if you can) and Windows 8.1 (seems to get the most out of SSDs)

If you can't get your hands on Windows 8.1, 7 is not quite as good, but still great in its own. You'll want to do a 64-bit install of your OS if you've got >3.5 GB RAM.

      • ok..thanks. might grab one and experiment a little.

I really wish I could make use of it with my iMac though :(

        • How old is your iMac? I've replaced the hard drive on mine - an old white iMac. I went from 160gb to 1TB. It was a bit tough in parts but the reward at the end was great.

I'm guessing the newer aluminium ones are harder to upgrade yourself. Try iFixit.com and see if they have teardowns on your model.

      • Windows 8.1 (seems to get the most out of SSDs)

It'll boot up and shutdown faster than Windows 7 due to UEFI Fast Boot support and better caching but Windows 8 doesn't introduce anything new in terms of how it handles SSDs.

SSD support has been native since Windows 7.

In this benchmark, SSD and gaming performance was marginally better on Windows 7.

  • I just bought this yesterday from MSY for $155 lol working awesome.

  • Does it just install in my laptop where my existing HD is at ?

Good price, a bit small but definitely in the realms of becoming a usable / sensible size.

    • buyt a 1tb or higher second drive. likei have.

Regardless of capacity, that can't be good for your teeth.

  • I bought one today. I have a 10" HP AMD that I'm hoping to breathe new life into.

Does anyone know how easy or good the migration software that comes with the drive?

    • +1

Yes. The Samsung Data Migration software is really easy to use and works really well. The drive should come with a disk, but I would not bother with that, even if you have an external CD/Rom drive. Just download the latest free version from Samsung, connect the SSD via a sata to usb connector, or what I do is insert the SSD into a usb 2 or 3 enclosure ( under $10 from ebay and handy for the old HHD ) and connect via a usb cable, a few easy steps/clicks ( similar to upgrading simple software ), wait a few minutes and your ready to swap drives and set up computer. I have done this with half a dozen laptops and a netbook, no problems. I also suggest installing the free Samsung Magician Software as you can monitor and optimise/customise settings for performance. Enjoy the challenge.

  • mwave is dodgy. I have 4 times attempted to buy something from them, each time unsuccessful. They cancel my order, then delete any trace of the order ever existing, but don't refund my money until I chase it up. Then they tried to blame me for closing the window too early after Paypal payment went through, which is a lie.

If I hadn't chased it up, they would have kept my money.

I'm not going anywhere near these thieves.
