iPhone 4 repair - worth it or not?

Hi all, I've got an iPhone 4 with an incredibly smashed screen but it still works well as most of the glass is intact with a screen protector.

It's been like this for several months now so it's not particularly urgent but does anyone know of a good repairer in Sydney who will repair for a relatively low price (under $50) but with good quality screens (had an issue with a past repair of different device.)
Is it even worth repairing now since its an older iPhone now or is it possible/more economical to upgrade the device to an iPhone 5 at apple instead? If so, how much will it cost?

Thanks

After downgrading from a iPhone 5 to an iPhone 4 (because my digitizer screwed itself). It definitely isn't worth getting the 4 repaired (unless you plan on selling it after). The phone is incredibly slow compared to my 5, I can't even text properly without lag. That being said, I don't think it will be easy to get it repaired for MUCH less than $50. I do know Apple previously did out of warranty replacements for $179. However this may have changed.

I would recommend searching ebay/forums for a cheap iphone 5. Or switch to a good android phone (Nexus 5 is around $359 according to an ozbargain post).

  • If you can hang out for a few months more wait until the next model iphone comes out, then you can either buy that, or pick up a used iphone5 from someone upgrading.

Switching platforms would be a nightmare unless you really dont like the current one.

And for the fanatics out there I mean switching either way, so keep calm please….

  • Go on ebay and buy a kit to replace the screen yourself for under $10.

Youtube will help guide you on how to install it.

    • Just buying the glass makes it very hard to replace, you need to buy the LCD as well as the glass, as they come fused. The LCD + glass assembly is about $25 depending on where you buy it from. The market price for phone stores repairing it for you is about $70

  • There's a repair shop in world square in Sydney cbd, they will do it for $60, takes a few hours.

  • Is it even worth repairing

Yes. However, not worth using the Genuine (OEM) Screen with the Gorilla Glass for an iP4.

I recommend the AfterMarket screen at $55 including a six month warranty,
