Hi rep I dont see why this is a deal. It seem to me that there is a discount on the fee to join but you dont get anything for joining.

  • Wouldn't a membership fee just push potential sellers away? Why not just have the lowest price for everyone and have a free signup.

  • Hi Garth,
While some offers are available to Bronze (FREE)members, greater discounts are offered to the paid subscriber levels. Most of our customers are able to save back the value of their subscription within the first order or 2 and are then able to continue to enjoy preferred membership pricing for 12 months.
    Regards,
    Kylie

  • Sorry - missed that second comment.

We do still offer a FREE sign up - however preferred pricing is available to paid subscribers. To date we have found that members join a subscriber level according to their expected wine purchasing behaviour. For example - a customer purcahsing a high value collector wine can save back their Platinum subscription price in one order. Currently based on the discount value of the Gold Membership - you could easily save back the membership price in one order and then have access to the ongoing discount available to the Gold Membership tier.
    Regards,
    Kylie

Wouldn't customer purchasing power without a membership offer the same results, a high value wine collector would still buy the high value wine and a casual drinker would buy the cheaper wine. While the high value collector might see the membership fee and just buy from somewhere else without that barrier of entry.

  • Hi Strikerzebra,
Our Bronze members are also able to get great value (Bromze members still access discounts up to 30% off retail). The subscription model we currently have has evolved over a number of years - it is similar to the notion of a Costco or Amazon Prime offering - where a paid membership gives access to additional benefits for the lifetime of your membership. Our suppliers will often support an even better offer for our Paid members because it is not seen by them to be sitting in the open market (and therefore negatively impacting their brand). Probably a bit counter intuitive I know - but it works!
    Regards,
    Kylie

Note that some/much of the older vintage wines are probably ex-investment stock that has been floating around for many years now. Research/caution advised if contemplating purchasing those wines, the Platinum member prices look about what they would be worth, but you pay to get those prices, Bronze member prices are too high.

When you add freight costs to the Platinum Member prices for the Baileys Durif 2012 or Shiraz 2012 you can still get them elsewhere for the same price without the membership fee. ($22.99 including freight on dozens from WineBoxWarehouse)

  • Hi Redbigot,
So that you are aware - the aged wines are all sotred in a climate controlled facility and have been thorugh an assessemnt on arrival into the warehouse. You will find a number of the agead premium products are actually not easily found elsewhere - a search on winesearcher will also help outline which products are the most competitively priced. We have specilaised in aged and premium products and have been managing the sale of these type of products for years now.
Definitely worth looking thorugh the prices carefully as there are some extremely good deals in the mix.
    Regards,
    Kylie

    • But where have they been over the years before arrival at your climate controlled facility? Some no doubt in good storage conditions but not all of it.
The only real way to assess an older bottle of wine with possibly undocumented provenance is to open it…

There may be some bargains left, but most of the real bargains and best wines were picked over by 2-3 years ago now, maybe more, I was part of the feeding frenzy back then as desperate "investors" caught out in the scams unloaded the wine for a lot less than they paid for it. But I've drunk all those that I bought, some were getting tired back then already, depending on how old you like your wines.

Well, first of all all RRP prices claimed on the website not the best market prices. When business claims there are savings compared to RRP prices I smell rubbish right away. Secondly - any membership deals and supply chains are only benefit owners of those chains not a regular customers which are "forced" to buy those products through those channels due to purchased membership and quite often selection far from great. Usually it is quite easy to purchase any wine offered on those "membership only" channels on a internet shop for a quite good and reasonable price without paying premium and bullshit membership charges…
It is open market after all. If you have a good product offer good price and we will buy it. Nobody cares about your membership anymore - we live in 2014 not in 1950…

  • Hi rep, after reading all comments I feel this is not a deal. Costco is a different proposition. They sell a wide variety of goods and will refund the membership cost if not 100% happy at any time.

Why don't you back your membership with a 100% money back guarantee on membership if not happy.
