Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei:_Persona_4

Seen as one of the best RPG ever made, this game will absorb your life. Game was ported to Vita with a few improvements and some new voice overs, but still a must by to play on your massive TV.

Game was completely rehauled on Vita with new characters, graphics, voices etc. Vita is by far the definitive version.

Also wasn't aware that PS4 played PS2 games, since when?

    • Digital port over

      • Page says PS3 only.

        • +2

          sorry fixed title, ps3

Also wasn't aware that PS4 played PS2 games

      My launch unit can.

      • No it can't. That's a PS3 60gb that plays PS2 ;)

        • Ah, I misread you. Oops.

In so many ways the PS3 is better than the PS4. It seems you can't download PS1, Vita and PSP games on PS4 for transferring.

        • @lostn:

It'll all come in future I have no doubt.

  • Have to agree with this game being a brilliant game, got my ps vita specifically for this =)

Though like Where's_That_Cake said, PS Vita version has additional character, cutscenes and a new game mechanic to learn spells. So if you have a PS vita, get that version. Else, if you have a PS4 get it, well worth it. Only thing i didn't like is the eng dub… i much prefer original voice overs with subtitle, but no option for it.

This game is not for PS4. PS3 only.

        ops, just saw that

  • SMT Nocturne is also $7.99, and both Raidou Kuzunoha titles are $3.99.

    • I'm still amused that there's a game called "Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army".

      Talk about a handful.

  • I've always wanted to get into the Persona series, after hearing so much about it, but it is so confusing trying to work out where to start! :S

    • +1

Honestly P4 is a good place to start as it's probably the most accessible in the series. If you enjoy it give P3 a try. I've heard good things about the DS version too.

      • +1

I'm playing P3 now on Vita. Good game.

        • Did they release a Vita version of that game? I had no idea.

        • @lostn:

PSP digital version. Its on sale now on PSN (AU) for $17.75 instead of the usual $32. Really good game.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Isn't that the poor man's version? The PS2 let you walk around, and I think the PSP version removed the direct exploration?

In any case, I don't like the way PSP games look on Vita. There is no option to not scale. When the PSP's resolution is stretch to full screen it just looks ugly.

        • @lostn: no exploration around school or town instead you visit these areas and use a cursor to click on people to interact with them. You do however have full exploration in the dungeons. It also adds the ability to play as a female protagonist, new story elements and music.
The graphics are also great due the art style used in the game.

First pic is of out of dungeon 'exploration'. In dungeonnis exactly the same as P4G.

You have to remember that this will always look better on a Vita than the PS2 version will on a big screen. TVs were only around 20" tops when P3 came out. PSP screen was not much smaller than Vita.

Also PSP games are not stretched, you're talking about PSOne games. PSP games look great.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: PSP res is 480x272. Can you play it bordered on vita? If not, I prefer to play it on PSP.

Did you play P3 before you played P4? I heard it's hard to go backwards due to the lack of refinements that P4 introduced.

I suppose you're right about SD consoles looking ugly on modern TVs. I'm struggling to find a solution so I can play my old consoles (PS2, Wii) without scaling. You can't buy CRT TVs anymore. The best I have right now is by plugging it into my Dell monitor and using 1:1 pixel mapping. I use a Component to HDMI converter box that does not upscale. So I have a pretty small picture surrounded by large black borders, and I can't do widescreen if it's anamorphic, but it's the only way it doesn't look god awful.

I just wish the Vita allowed non-scaling mode.

        • @lostn:

I have no idea about playing in bordered mode or not. I played P4G first and I am not the type who plays PSP games on Vita usually but this is not a problem for me at all with this game. Graphics are really good, I'm not bothered about them at all as it all looks great and bright. I have assigned X to the touch screen bottom right corner for touch controls (I use it to skip through some dialogue when I read through quicker than the voice over does) and assigned L & R to right stick for camera control in dungeons. It feels like I'm playing a Vita game to be honest. I have no problem recommending this game to others. Its really great, Persona fans should grab it.

      • So you don't have to play the previous in order to "get" the universe / plot / etc?

        • +1

          nope, different casts and scenarios

        • cool thanks :)

that being said, I notice they also have a few others pretty cheap:

Shin Megami Tensei®: Digital Devil Saga®
          $9.99

          Shin Megami Tensei®: Nocturne®
          $7.99

          Shin Megami Tensei®: Persona® 3 FES
          $9.99

          Persona®2: Eternal Punishment (PS3™/PSP®/PS Vita)
          $3.99

SMT®: Devil Summoner®2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon
          $3.99

SMT: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs the Soulless Army
          $3.99

        • Ahhh bugger, I played a bit then broke down and bought them all :P

    • +2

They are really just stand alone titles mostly, but Persona 4 is the newest and probably the better one due to that.

      • +1

I haven't started P3 myself, but i heard Yukiko cameos in P3… other then that they seem to have separate storys like Venom said.

  • Well there we go. Day started in disappointment. Greader don't update titles :(

  • I ran out of hdd space on my ps3. how do i backup this game?

    • +1

Just buy and download later at any time.

The Velvet Room ruined my life. Even now I can hear the music playing in the background while I went back and forth doing fusions for hours on end trying to get the perfect combo of inheritance.

Luckily there hasn't been a good deal on Vitas recently.

    • Blasphemy!!!! the Velvet room music is so nice to listen to…

  • IMO the original is the better version on presenting its story. Vita's P4 Golden is more like a fan service to me. Don't get distracted by those extra content. The story goes better without them.

    • +3

IMO you're wrong. Not sure how a complete HD overhaul, extra story and extra awesome can be considered a fan service as opposed to a definitive version (as is universally acclaimed by critics)
