Return Flights from Bangkok to Phuket

Hello Everyone,

My friend is looking for decent price tickets to fly from Bangkok to Phuket return in August. the cheapest she could find is around $500 for 2 adults+2kids dates are 5/08 fly out, 14/08- return (AirAsia).
Can anyone suggest cheaper carriers? or website with access to good specials?

family's budget is quit tight, their first holiday in many years, so please understand her will to find cheaper tickets. and yeah, this is Ozbargain))

appreciate your quality advice!
thank you.

PS. dates are fixed, she bought return tickets already from her country to Thailand.

  • nokair.com works out about the same.
nok includes 15kg baggage where airasia is an addon

good luck doing better than that just 3 weeks out!
$250 each way for a family of 4 is good value this late in the piece

    • Bangkok Airways are $500 return (15120 baht) too and include 30kg baggage per person if you join their frequent flyer program (free to join). Also includes lounge access (sort of) and in-flight meal service.

You can read a pretty detailed review from someone who did a domestic Koh Samui-Bangkok flight with them here:

  • geez, $500 return. i remember air-asia one-way tickets were like $20-40 each way when i went a couple of years ago.

    • Still are at times. They need people paying normal amounts of money to stay in business though :)

    • Yeah i agree there usually $20-$40 one way, these flights were $12 a few months ago with AirAsia big sale. They have left it way to late to book to get the cheap fares.

OP Maybe take a bus/sleeper train if the budget is really tight but time is money.

If the budget was tight they would be staying at home or at least going to Saigon, not Phuket.

    • Well the OP states the budget is tight.. "family's budget is quit tight"

And Phuket is best suited as a family holiday over HCMC. Let alone the budget being tight paying $70-$80+ each for a visa to Vietnam + airfare wouldn't make sense.

I found meal's and transportation costs etc was pretty much the same in Thailand as in Vietnam just far less scam's and people blatantly trying to rip you off.

But each to there own, enjoy your holiday OP

  • It hardly matters what the OP says, if the budget it tight you don't go flying overseas on holidays.

    Less scams in Phuket? Hilarious.

And if you think meal prices and transportation prices are similar then you are obviously doing it wrong, which is apparent going by the outrageous price you quote for a visa.

I use these guys and have done for years - single entry for a mth is $10, not the $70 or $80 you quote.

I agree. Phuket is a shit hole. Full of scammers, taxi mafia etc etc. And to plan to go there for 9 nights is NUTS !!! If planning to just stay in a resort, then you can do that anywhere.
But Davros, your Visa prices for Vietnam are wrong. Visa on arrival online application fee is approx. $US 10 per person, and then stamping fee at Airport is $US45 per person. Dearer if done at Consulate. (prices went up about 1 year ago)
Staying in Thailand, I would suggest fly to Krabi, and go to Railay Beach for a few nights, and then transfer to Koh Phi Phi for the rest of the holiday. Or a less complicated option is to get a large 4wd Sized taxi for about 2800 Thai Baht (you need to 'negotiate' but this is what you should pay) each way from Bangkok, and go to Hua Hin and stay in the centre of town (some bargains away from town but then the hassles of transport). Great beach, great people, no rip offs etc etc.
I have had a real lot of experience in Thailand.
OP PM me if want more detailed info/suggestions

"But Davros, your Visa prices for Vietnam are wrong. Visa on arrival online application fee is approx. $US 10 per person"

Thats what I said, So I am right, thanks for confirming.
Stamping is a separate charge all together as you pointed out and combined, still cheaper than the touted $70 to $80

    • Not sure if you are in the Tourism industry but there are plenty of people who go overseas on a tight budget, Ive visited 24 countries in just the last two years alone without a job while being a full time tourism student so my budget was very tight and i met many many people along the way budgeting also.

And the $70-$80 visa fee is for the visa issued in Australia at the consulate, I wasn't referring to the two step visa on arrival issue. (Due to many problems of denied boarding by airlines with documentation from unofficial visa sites)

        First world problems #1
Poor people on holidays who travel the world by jet playing tightarse.
Compared to MOST of the world, you are incredibly wealthy

"I wasn't referring to the two step visa on arrival issue. (Due to many problems of denied boarding by airlines with documentation from unofficial visa sites)"
Been doing it this way for a decade or more.
Can you point to any of these "many" problems?

There are scam websites, just like there are scam checkpoints and scam airline ticket sales sites, but anyone with a small amount of intelligence will easily be forewarned as to which ones are legit by doing some simple research on sites like TA.

Thank you everyone for your input.

have forwarded link to this conversation to my friend - she will decide whether they want to go to Phuket or somewhere else in Thailand, up to her.

having said budget is tight but they still want to go on holidays - they live inlands (not Australia), want to take kids to the sea which they have never seen before. saved some money and want to spend it wisely (well, may be holiday is not the way to spend money wisely but this is the subject to a totally different topic))).

anyway, thanks everyone for your opinion and ideas, my friend is reading this and she is definitely taking points you make into account.
