Travelling to Hong Kong later in the year and im looking for some recommendations on tailored suits. I know Ozbargainers will know all the good deals ;)
Hong Kong Tailored Suit
Comments
Lol at that comment about the chinese and their suitcases. I went to a "factory outlet" in HK (which was nowhere near a factory district, it was actually close to the airport) and they were all there in full force before the stores even opened, felt like a zombie apocalypse with them wandering around aimlessly…
Anyway, there are plenty of stores in Causeway bay and pretty much the central areas that do tailored suits… price wise i wouldn't have a clue cause i didn't check the last time i went back.
wandering around aimlessly…
Woah, surely not Mainland Chinese? I'm expecting them to be shoving ppl out of the way, trying to be first in line.
haha
So that is the mystery of the suitcases solved!
I had visions of getting a suit made, but found the prices way higher than I wanted to pay.
Dramatically dearer than Vietnam and considerably higher than Thailand.
I suspect if you want top quality rivaling a London tailor, it can be found at a price much less than London, but it isn't cheaper than buying off the rack here, like a suit in Thai/Viet is.A 5min walk around TST will get you a handful of cards from suit touts, but many seem to lead back to the same tailor - which made me too suspicious. Trip Advisor has some recommendations you could look into.
Not after super expensive or anything crazy just good material and a great fit. Suits here are super expensive.
some of the notable HK taylors :
W.W.Chan ( the best in HK if not the whole asia)
Ascot Chang
Jantzen ( good for tailored shirts and pants)
Sams
- Gordon Yao
Whatever you do, don't tempt yourself with the Indian taylors or those handing out flyers. Good taylors don't need to advertise that way.
Jantzen doesn't do bespoke, whereas the others do. Would recommend Chan over the others, but definitely not going to be cheap. Peter Lee is also a good choice, a bit cheaper than Chan. Have a look at styleforum for reviews for bespoke tailors of HK. Probably not for ozbargainers lol.

i usually go to DeLoren in Canon St Causeway Bay. not much fan fare, just does a good job and usually people from the surrounding hotels (which are normally aussies and brits) wander in. he isnt on a main road.
+1 for G2000. The stuff they sell is really good quality for the price.
Hav you considered goin across the border to Shenzhen. There's a plethora of tailors in the main shopping complex adjacent to the train station. Its also alot cheaper than in HK.
One tip is don't go during chinese new year (around Feb). I went and the majority of shops were closed and an ETA on a suit was one to two weeks. :(Hence, I went to see Malik at New super fit fashion in HK. No hassles and no fuss. Google the name and it will pop up on a few online forums. Suit was done in a couple of days. I came back once more for final fitting.
He also visits Australia for suit fitting and sales too!Another tip is to bring in photos/ideas of the suit deisgn you want, which will help tailors.
If you want semi-tailored, you can always try the fashion chain G2000. They do alterations to arms, shoulders, legs on suits for free/minimal cost and their suits and business shirts are very good quality for the price. The clothes normally go on sale at the end of every season, so that's when you'll get some good bargains (if you can manage to fight your way through the many Mainland Chinese with their suit cases on day trips. Note: You'll understand what I mean when you get there…).
