Laptop Tax Deduction

i want to claim my laptop as a deduction on my tax return.

i use this for work related education AND just standard employment work

there are seperate section for each of these.

do i need to claim it on one or the other? and does it matter which? or do i claim it on both?

only my 3rd tax return in your beautiful country and by god they make it confusing.

  • it is up to you really.

you can claim on both say 40% for work related education and 30% for work

just make sure your claim is within reasonable range.

  • I believe there is a limit to how much an item can be worth before you have to depreciate it… Something like $1000 if I recall. Less than that, you can claim all in first year. Otherwise depreciate it over the service life (i.e. 3 years for a laptop is probably fine).
