Your experience with IPS glow, Dell or any other brand.

I've got a Dell p2214h, it's pretty nice and was only $155 from the outlet.

One thing though that's really annoying me is the IPS glow on the bottom right hand corner!
I can see it pretty plainly from a normal seated position, looking only slightly downwards, if i shift down and right it disappears. It also lessens noticeable if i increase the brightness or contrast (currently set at 0 and 50 respectively), but the environment is darkish and any brighter strains my eyes.

Right now it feels like 'this glow is to IPS panels what viewing angles are to TN panels.' XD

I could possibly send it back, but i'm not sure if it will get better or if it's worth the time.

how has your experience been?

  • Yeah, it's fairly noticeable on my U2414H's. I nearly gave up and sold them after a week, but I'm more accustomed to it now. I don't think I'll be buying another monitor until OLED enters the market at a reasonable price (fingers crossed).

    • Happy there's nothing really wrong with my panel, sad that IPS glow sucks as much as it does. I always expected it to be there but was honestly surprised it could be seen from such a slight angle.

I got used to the gradient on TN panels so i can probably get used to this, i would argue though that one corner is more distracting than a whole axis.

One thing i have done is switch to a non-dark wallpaper lol, and i'm also working on switching my windows around so that the lighter ones are to the right…
i should probably sit further back too, better for my posture, but the pixels are pretty small on a 1080p 21.5" screen so that's another issue, wii u looks awesome though.

  • anybody else? i'm looking for positive experiences too.

What i've noticed is that the calibrated results of many reviews has considerably higher brightness than what i use, and in those situations i imagine that this issue is greatly diminished. Sitting back helps too so that may be another factor.

The good news is that after 3 days i'm already getting used to it, and almost everything else about the monitor is a noticeable step up from my old TN.

  • I bought a Dell monitor a few years back - like you i was impressed at the price but the glow was so bad I thought it must be defective. Dell replaced it and replace the one after that. Eventually I had enough. I promised never to buy a Dell product again after that.

    • Sorry to hear that.
Generally speaking all my Dell stuff has been ok, i've had a bad experience with Viewsonic and Acer, and i guess Dell as well. Honestly if feels like a crap-shoot when it comes to getting a good panel.

Can i ask which brand you went for afterwards? and was it better?
