  • this promotion has been running for a few months….

    • Has the deal been posted before?

otherwise how could i know and join the plan?

  • terrible alue for the money.

    • Per title, includes handset plans

      • I understand the concept of handset plans though, BYO handset plans are pre-paid with the risk of going over your plan.

Virgin may well be fairly priced with their normal handset plans (my wife has one and she's very happy with it), my issue wasn't with them but the value of the BYO plans.

        • +3

The BYO handset plans are post-paid and are around $10 per month cheaper than a handset plan with the same inclusions (minus included phone). Compare the non-BYO plans.

As donga said, it's the same plan but cheaper, so if the handset plans are good value, then the cheaper ones for BYO should be also.

And virgin now have decent warning systems for when you're going over your credit. I get an sms when I reach 50% and 85% of my data for example.

And the risk of having a prepaid phone run out of credit in an emergency outweighs the risk of going over my bill. Just get a monthly plan that is sufficient with a little extra room of credit so that you won't go over it. Then why would you be going over your bill for any other reason than it being an unusual emergency type situation where you probably need your phone to work and wasting time recharging is not ideal.

Not to mention the inconvenience of topping up all the time and worrying about your current credit levels. I just don't have to have that worry in my life and I'd actually prefer to pay extra for that privilege, not that you have to in this case.

EDIT: Plus with the roll-over credit, you should have a buffer in case of emergencies so that you won't get a large bill in the case of an emergency.

No handset = no commitment. You can leave after a month. This is for people who can control their mobile usage. Very convenient not having to recharge if you go beyond your allowance. I signed up to the $20/mo plan with 1.2gb data. I dont make a lot of calls/text and 1.2gb is more than enough. Optus 4G is very fast too.

    • I have no issue with people disagreeing with me but can I get an explination?

The BYO plans are the bad part of having a plan (the possibility of a massive bill) along with these plans being less value for money than some of their competitors that offer pre paid services for example amaysim.

So what's so wrong with that statement?

        Different arrangements suit different people.

eg consider someone who works out they use $130 to $150 a month in calls. This person pays attention to their calls and do not expect a large surge in call making.

A $20 BYO plan, with $200 a month in value, could suit their needs.

As for prepaid, they'd have to spend $29+ a month ($29 every 4 weeks doesn't last the whole month, 11 out of 12 months)

Fair enough for that price point, admittedly I was looking more at the $40+ offerings.

I appreciate your response, I find it incredibly frustrating when what I thought seemed like a valid response is met with negging without discussion. I don't care that it gets voted down in the slightest, I just want to know the reasoning. Thank you.

  • Last one ended on 29/06 and after it ended the $20 plan didn't have the extra GB while the rest still were. Now the $20 plan is back with 1GB extra now. Thanks for posting anyway, OP.

It's been running since around April…

Shouldn't you be quoting my start date instead of my end date?

  • this is 3G or 4G? they said included internet calls , is it same like TPG , calling 90077777, then redirect your call to oversea, and charge you with very cheap call rate ?

    • Uses Optus 4G. Not sure about the Internet calls though

  • Signed up for one of these yesterday with a brand new s5. They waived the remaining 6 months of my existing contract - no upgrade fee.

My new plan is 5 bucks cheaper with an extra 500 mg mobile data per month.

This would be the third time I've re signed with them. Been very happy with reception, service etc

Now what to do with my Note 2.

    • eBay or if you don't like paying crazy fee's give ozbargain classifieds a go

      • Happy where I am. While I wouldn't call this a bargain per say I'm happy to pay for the convenience and service Virgin provides.
