Anybody know if the drives can be removed from the case? A friend's laptop drive just died on him. If he can buy for himself this it'd make my life a whole lot easier, as I don't have to order a bare drive for him.
I don't know the answer to your question, but if the drive can be removed also check that it's not too thick for the laptop. I imagine size won't be an issue, but worth checking anyway.
The WD never used to be removable so I assume this one will be the same.
I'm guessing this one won't have a SATA interface - the case is only 110mm long. A standard 2.5" drive is 100.5mm, which leaves only 9.5mm for the case and interface. It looks as if removing it would require destruction of the case.
Bought one at lunchtime…
Difference between this and the My Portable Ultra model?
elements doesn't have the extra junk embedded in the firmware (in addition to the backup software you can delete.)
I found the elements, for me, worked with a Ps3 where no matter how I formatted/deleted the MyPortable the PS3 would except it - my guess it has something to do with the firmware.
Every time you plug the MyPortable drive in a PC it pops up some software and you cant delete it, just disable it auto starting.
Camberwell VIC branch had a display as you walk in. Not bad, it's come down $20 in the ~1.5 years i got my first 1TB USB3.0 drive from there.
