Audible Gold US$1.95/Mth - 3 Months (New and Previous Members) (Normally US$14.95/Mth)

460
TZ2014

I've waited a day to make sure it worked, but this CNet article is onto a great deal. I've checked my account details, and have 1 credit, and have been charged US$1.95. I had a membership last year (and cancelled it), so this is one of those rare, not just for 'new members only' Audible deals.

Note that the price will revert to $14.95/mth after the 3 month period (thanks SmiTTy), and you can cancel at any time.

CNet also says; Surprisingly, this deal is good not just for new customers, but for previous members as well. (If you're a current member, I don't see why you couldn't cancel, then sign up again via this offer. That's gaming the system a bit, but that's how you earn your cheapskate bona fides, right?)

  • pricing only valid for 3 months by the sounds of it :

At the end of the 3-month promotional period, your Audible.com subscription will be renewed at the then current full price (currently $14.95 per month) with your Audible account credit card.

Good deal though . This would equate to 3 audio books for $6 vs some of the other deals where you get 2x free audio books at initial sign up.

  • Good deal although T&C states new customers only but since they haven't fixed it since june when the article was posted I guess they don't care. Great deal and hope I don't need to call them to cancel this time as I've heard the second time you cancel you might need to call to cancel.

Also Big recommendation for any Daniel Suarez's books read by Jeff Gurner Esp love Daemon and Freedom some great Scifi/horror type stuff there!

  • Without bothering to actually check myself…. how does this system work? Do you download the audiobooks to an audible player on a mobile to listen at your leisure (and offline so you're not constantly using data every time you want to listen to it)?

And if you cancel before the end of 3 months (because we're all cheapskates), can we keep those 6 books we've chosen?

    • I use the Audible app on my iPhone (also on android), and download the books when on Wi-Fi, rather than using up my mobile data.

You can cancel at any time, but note that this will get you 3 books at $1.95, but you get to keep the books. I've got a library over 100 books strong now, though a fair few of those were $0.99 Classics.

Yes android/IOS/Windows apps to download DRM'd audio files which it will play.
Also yes cancel before the end of the 3rd month.
      Although it'll be 3 books.
Also you should use a free offer before you take up this offer unless you wanna pay for some reason.

Although I thought there was a free trial offer with three book credits but can't seem to find it.

Yep definitely worth doing the above. Just claim the two books and cancel (you wont lose access to the existing books), then take up this offer. I'd previously used a trial so I couldn't do this with my own account, but my partner did just that without any hiccups.

    • I got that before too - check you're not already logged on

      • I get through it and at the end it just offers me $14.95

If you don't have an active membership, try signing into your account, going to checkout and entering promotional code at checkout. A new item should appear - three month subscription to gold membership, and in the 'you pay' column it should show $1.95. If you're still having trouble, try chatting to customer service- they're pretty good, I've had them throw me bonus credits by way of apology before

  • what are audio books like? ive never tried them before

Good entertainment. Really expensive compared to other subscription or purchasable media though.
They are excellent for exercising though they actually make me want to go out and stay walking longer because I find the story entertaining.

      • downloading an audi book now ill see what it's like

          Don't tell Holden.

        • @Composure: dont tell me what?

        • +1

@holden93: I'll be Holden you close if you're Ford with me, don't worry about the Audi book ;)

  • Is the cancellation process fairly painless?

    • +2

Fairly; you can cancel through the website, about three 'are you sure?' Pages, and usually a deal to entice you to stay - depending on why you say you're canceling - e.g. Too expensive = discount for 3 months, or Too many credits = suspend membership but still get member discounts.

      • have you had to cancel in a different way when you go to cancel the second time?
I've heard they make it a more difficult but that could just be internet rumors.

  • Sadly it may no longer be working :-(

    • Worked for me just now. I cancelled my existing membership and signed up again using the code.

      • Me too.

  • Confirmed still working. Cancelled active membership and "reactivated" with this code. Just did this via my mobile in desktop mode.

Listened to a few samples and god I can't stand the American accent. Are there any UK centric audio book sites?

  • Great deal. I have got an off-topic question though. Does anyone know why the prices on amazon.com and audible are different for the same book? Like this one,
    http://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/All-the-Light-We-Cannot-Se…
    http://www.amazon.com/All-Light-We-Cannot-See/dp/B00JV3YSIM/…

Is there any difference in quality or flexibility/format?

    • well thats a bit unusual.
even when it says a price on amazon in the list of pricing types the price is different on the right by $3 so thats weird.
Aside from that I could guess Audible has purposely made it difficult/impossible to search via price (low to high). Knowing that customers who know you can search amazon by price for audible pricing (bargain shoppers) they've lowered the price on the amazon site to catch more of us as opposed to us buying elsewhere perhaps?

      • Forgot to mention that the two audiobooks for the same book are actually read by two different person according to the sample (one male and one female). Didn't know you can search amazon by price. Yeah, your explanation makes sense. And I guess may be to entice people to get a monthly subscription with most audible books being much more than $15.

Price difference for me is around $6, $22.67 vs $16.88. Different browser and customer history I guess.

    • No difference at all, the books are added to your audible account even when purchased from the amazon website, i just bought a book yesterday like this because i too realised it was cheaper on amazon!

  • Wanted "John Dies at the End" but region restrictions apply.

"We're sorry. Due to publishing rights restrictions, we are not authorized to sell this item in the country where you live."

Can someone with a VPN see if that gets around this?

change the billing address on your Credit card or whatever you have attached to any US address.
Change it back afterwords if you intend to actually pay them something at some point.

  • Thanks… worked.

  • Thanks worked for me too

  • I cancelled my subscription about 1 year ago since I rarely get a chance to listen any more, but there area few books I still want to finish up a series, the code works, thanks!

  • Hmm…got it to work with our primary but not secondary account, not quite sure why it was glitchy. Cheers OP, 3 books for $6 is great value (for those who enjoy paying for things).

  • Code didn't work for me. Maybe because I am on an audible.com.au account?

    • Says code expired on .com

  • It says expired for me. Missed the boat again. Dang.

  • New credits should be coming soon within 1-2 days now go look for what book you want!
