Anyone get an idea of price for fixing the screen on a surface rt tablet, I have been quoted $250 but hoping to get it cheaper. Thanks

$250 is insane, have you seen how much the RT is priced on Amazon?
Anyway, the reason the repair cost is so high is because of the high cost of the parts.
The LCD and Digitizer assembly costs over $100 according to Aliexpress

Which is not cheap, might as well try to repair it yourself.
Can't say for a tablet only I cracked the touch screen on my tomtom xls and it was going to be same price to repair as a new one.
Found the Samsung original screen digitiser and had it delivered from china for about $10 au all up. 30 mins to solder it in ($10 ozbargain solder iron) and all good. found instructions on you tube.

Damn. I threw out a TomTom 820 that I cracked the third time I used it because the replacement screen was going to be more than the price I'd paid for it. Should have thought to ask here. lol

it plugs in..I was able to find just the glass for my tomtom instead of the whole assembled unit which it was so much less. The assembly for tomtom was about $70 + shipping.
Try contact them and ask about just the glass part it should be $20 plus shipping
The 15 year old has decided that fixing it himself was a bit tricky so spent his own money ($190) to get fixed.
Thanks for the input/ advice/ ability for him to talk in an informed way to technician.
