We have been using a Billon for the past 2 years, and now it is having trouble connecting and staying connected to the internet. My family needs to connect there ipads so need wifi, and just something reliable and cheap and deals around at the moment thanks
Best deal at the moment for a modem for home use?

Ok there isn't any crackling when I use the phone normally, I will try it with only the phone connected and see, thanks for the advice.
Also worth trying a different Power supply if you have one that is suitable.
TP-Link modems at MSY are very good value.
Worth spending the extra for the W8980 in my opinion..Give it a factory reset too - might help iron out any bugs.
Same, have been using Billion n7800 for the past 2 years and the wifi performance is getting worse (especially the place I live have many other wifi connections). I have set the wifi Channel as Auto but seems like it is not well perform on my Billion. However the ADSL connection is still going strong, I end up bought a wireless router (or you can just buy an AP) connect it to my Billion (let Billion act as a modem). Now my family are happy with the strong better wifi with no complain.
The wireless router (or AP) is depending what you need. (e.g. 5Ghz wifi? n or ac? Qos? Heavy traffic?)
I have bought Netgear R7000($205) as I have 3 Mac computers at home which allow me to run the TimeMachine from the USB3 drive connected with this router. Also Qos, 5Ghz wifi just match with my needs.Don't set it to Auto..
Find the channel with the least noise and set it to that.Isn't that exactly what AUTO is meant to do?
Yes, but in my experience it fails miserably. Often picking the WORST channel! I half suspect that AUTO is misinterpreted/mistranslated as DEFAULT.
have you done any basic testing to determine if the modem is actually playing up? do you hear any crackling on the line with only the phone connected (no filter, no modem, etc)? have you tried the connection with only the modem connected (no filter, no phone)?
