Ok, so my partner and I are going to be renting a place in Sydney for 6 months before moving to a more permanent location, again in Sydney.
I would like to get a decent broadband connection as I work from home but this seems to be harder than I originally thought.
Most providers have contracts 12 or 24 months and I have contacted Exetel who informed me that if I move house, I have to sign up for a new contract. Thats great but what happens to the old contract? Well you will have to pay an early exit fee. Really, even if I stay with the same provider? Yep.This early exit fee is in the order of $200, approximately 4 months worth of broadband time.
So then I thought well, what about the likes of Belong, with their month by month. I was stunned that the phone connection fees and then broadband connection fees are quite steep, approx $180.
So I thought I would reach out to the community on what my alternatives possibly are. I guess 4G is an option. I think usage would be around 70-80GB per month for a 6 month period, prior to getting a proper ADSL2+ connection.
Any thoughts on the best way forward and which providers to talk to?
Have you tried telstra or internode? I'm certain both of those offer the ability to move the service with you.
I've done it on internode (it was about 8 years ago I moved, but had no problem transferring to the new house).
It may be a small amount PM more than your current provider but worth it in hassle free transfers, you can always swap back after the contract period is over.
A 4g data only service with that amount of data, I would expect to be more then a set plan from an ISP, by a long shot. Happy to be proven wrong though.
