It's not the "old" 18yo JW Gold that's become hard to get, it th's the new "Gold reserve". Still the best price I've seen this at ever. I wouldn't pay the normal price of $95 but at $60 it's a bargain. Dans has it on special in their catalogue this week for $68 down from about $75 normally, nicks.com.au is $79.99. Yes - before all you Ozbargainers comment.. it is great with diet cola. Edit - hard to tell on their website but it looks like it's one day only. Order online and get free delivery over $150 though.

Haha - it's $68 on the back of the Dan Murphy catalogue - so they must have price matched First Choice - that was quick. It looks like it's in Dans stores too and not just one of their silly "delivery only" price matches. Well spotted snagseb!
That sneaky Uncle Dan ;)
Pretty sure a Free Metro Shipping code arrived this week with an Everyday Rewards booklet.
But I cant find the booklet or remember the code…Can anyone confirm that I'm correct and not going nuts?
Any luck with this free metro shipping code?
pop in to pick up a free Tap King…came out with a bottle of scotch too…damn you 1st choice!
Pepsi Max slabs on special too @ coles … its good week ;)
Please don't tell me you plan on mixing 18yo scotch with Pepsi Max!
edit: Just read that this is a blend? And not like the previous Gold Label? so how old is this scotch?
There are some review here at dans: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_903310/johnnie-walk…
The bottle does not suggest age so…. I'd assume not too old :) aka "fresh"!
Johnnie walker are all blends no single malts as far as I'm aware. I think they Gold labels used to be 15 or 18 years old but has been bottled with no age statement since last year.
At this price its pretty good value for a nice blended Scotch.. this and possibly the green are probably the only JW I might consider buying.
Just in time for dry July :(
I always thought that dry referred to how your mouth and body felt after a big night on it.
Ha… another poor bastard roped in to abstain from booze for 31 days :P
I did my stint off the booze in June…….going to be soooo much better drinking in July hahaha (going on a holiday, no chance I was not drinking during that)
Yes! Part of brother's upcoming milestone birthday present sorted! Thanks OP!
Single malt vs blended?
Don't be a snob and just drink what you enjoy.
I love Macallan 18 yr old single malt but I drink Monkey Shoulder as my regular evening nip.
+1 on Monkey Shoulder. Maybe it's just me but I have a hard distinguishing between that blend and speyside single malts like Glenfiddich and Cragganmore.
My nightly sipper of choice is Glen Grant Major's Reserve, which is a single malt that can occasinally be had for $40. I actually prefer it to the Gelnlivet.
Another +1 for Monkey Shoulder. At first I thought it was kind of harsh when drunk straight, but I found with a teaspoon of water, its actually a very decent drop if you can get it for ~$40.
Nothing wrong with a blend done well. I'm not a huge fan of JW, because in my view they tend to be fairly boring or lacking in character/complexity. Blue label and above I find waay overpriced for what they are. Though at this price the Gold label represents pretty good value.
JW doesn't do single malt. I got a bottle yesterday as it's good for the price, but I actually preferred the now-defunct green label that seems to have been replace by this (as it sits below the more expensive 18 yo Gold label).
There's a blend for every taste. For a light coloured, very smooth drinking blend, try The Bailie Nichol Jarvie. About $36.
Hmmmm - this should taste better if mixed with LA Ice Cola - lots of it.
LA Diet Ice Cola: for anyone seeking to completely mask the flavour of what they're mixing in with.
looks like it's still available
Just bought a bottle from 1st Choice. Still active. Thanks!
$59.90 at Dan Murphys too for anyone interested.
