Free Weekly DVD Rentals with Donation of Can of Food for Charity - Australia Wide and NZ

130

Great charity event that has been running since 2007. Donate 1 can of food you get 1 free weekly rental, donate 2 cans of food and get 3 free weekly rentals. Great timing with the school holidays (and teach the kids about people less fortunate than themselves). All food goes to help those in your local community.

Participating stores in every state in Australia. For full list of participating stores…..

(Also a few stores in New Zealand this year)

Ever been concerned that your donation does not end up where it is intended? Well this event is different, 100% of you donation will go to feed someone in need. If you don't want to watch any movies, there is also the option of dropping off a few cans of baked beans/soup to your local store as a gesture of good will.

Runs for the month of July.

I post a lot of deals, but this one means the most as it has the ability of helping others.

Cheers.

  • Or you can just donate some food to help people out.
Personally, i drop of two dozen mixed cans to my local store every year who then passes them on to the local Salvos.
(I don't need the DVD rentals with Netflix at home)

Love this, shame there is no store near me :( Also surely you guys need advertise or promote this more I have never heard of it! Keep up the great work!!

    • Cheers mate. One of the down sides of not collecting money is it makes advertising hard.
Most stores try to advertise locally and get write ups in their local newspapers or school newsletters.
We find the local articles work best as though this is a nation wide event, the collection and hand out of food happens locally.

  • I should add most stores I know also include the weekly Blu-ray rentals. I know my local store had over 600 Blu-ray weeklies when I counted last year.

Yes understand. Do you have a facebook page? Couldn't find it. I think you will find a lot of people will post this in their facebook status and having a facebook page could really help. I'm also sure there would be people interested in doing some volunteer SEO work for the cause, take care :)

Just brain-farting here. Shoot me, if I'm derailing…
Give a DVD, get a DVD rental. With stores almost binning DVDs, let-alone consumers, their collection would be MASSSSIVE with this - 50 copies of everything. The smaller the community, the more it'd take-off, I think.

    Back-on-topic…
It's 2014. We live in this AMAZING country, Australia… Are people seriously struggling even to buy canned-food?! Something's seriously wrong with the entire picture. People, Australia, The World, Wealth Distribution, Mental Health etc. etc. There's some seriously broken links in the chain.

We've reached such mind-blowing heights, as a race. But still USELESS when it comes to things like this.

Every little effort like this needs praise & attention. Thanks for doing this!

Yes something has always been wrong with the picture, its the world we live in and it's up to us to help make difference!

Unfortunately people do struggle and even places like the Salvos (and Foodbank) are struggling to get donations of food. Companies like SPC used to help out a lot, but even they are struggling as a company.
I know during the drought a few years back donations of rice even dried up.

The great thing about this event is that people who are struggling to get a feed are helped out. Every can of food donated goes to someone who needs it. No loss in your donation. 100% of it helps someone.

I should add, Network Video is a major supporter of this event and the DVD stores are generally owned by local families. Big credit to these stores for taking part and to the locals who participate.

Feel free to spread the word, or join the Facebook page. Unfortunately way too many people struggling.

      Thanks for your support.
