Wii U Pro Controller or Motion controller +

Just got the Wii U and wanted to know do I need to buy both these controllers? My kids will mostly play Mario games (MK8, Super Mario, etc.)

Looks like the Pro Controller is better, from what I've read from searching on Google. Do I need the motion controller at all? I don't plan on playing Wii games

For the games you've listed, you should be ok with just the Pro Controller. However games like multiplayer Nintendo Land (which is incredibly fun with 5 people) you'll require the Wii remote.

And, keep in mind, for almost every game on the Wii-U, one of the players can be using the Gamepad as a controller, so, say you've got 3 kids, you only need to buy 2 additional pro controllers. But that's only if someone wants to use it, it's not always required.

But yes; pro controllers are preferable over the Wii-motes, as none of the good-quality wii-u games have required Wii-motes as of yet (but most still support them if preference permits their use) and almost everything supports the pro controllers.

I guess it's arguable whether or not the wii-motes are preferred. They might be more fun to use in a game like mario kart for the wheel-esque controls than the Pro controller. But you can't go wrong with the Pro controller

      • I actually preferred Wii-mote and nunchuck to a gamecube or classic controller on the Wii version of Smash Brothers…. Because I'm weird and there's something wrong with me I guess.

  • Pro controller it is thanks people :) now to find a bargain hehe

If your not playing any original wii games, I'd just go with the pro.
