Who went to see Jordan Belfort the Wolf of Wall Street?

So I had the chance to go see the real wolf of wall street in Melbourne and I'm wondering what other people thought of the experience.
In my head I had hyped him up to be some ultra smooth talker that had some unprecedented ability in persuasion and negotiation.
There were parts where he definitely spoke well, was entertaining and teaching some good content. He put up 2 items to sell live. One at a fixed price which was snapped up instantly and the other was an auction. The Auction was for an original Stratton Oakmont handbook which he gave his first 12 employees. He said the money was going to charity and explained it all. He started the auction at $500 which I thought was pretty high. Before you know its sold for $5,000 in a matter of seconds. Some high rollers in the house tonight.
Anyway, he started to teach some of his ideas and values, I couldn't help but think he is trying to sell something to us tonight. He kept referring to this system of his multiple times throughout the seminar and at the very end offered another special 3-day seminar in August originally priced at $11,000.
He then did that thing you see a lot on late night infomercials. He took the price down several times down until it got to $1k and let us loose. There was only 150 spots and people rushed and crowded the registration area and started signing up. He would've made the $150,000 from that easily in the one night.

In the end I came out not really feeling much better about my 'persuasion' skills. Since I didn't buy into his system either, I felt like it was a bit of a waste of time. The crowd on the other hand seemed much more into it.

What was other people's experience like? How did you find it?

P.S His handwriting is terrible. I mean seriously bad

  • I've heard it's a regularly used trick at such events to have staff members planted in the audience, who rush to the back to sign up to convince others to do so. I can't imagine Jordan not using that one.

  • +4

    Didn't go - wouldn't go.
And I would feel much better if I knew any money raised was going to his victims.

  • I went to see him in Melbourne.

Paid $100 for tickets when they first came out, they obviously didn't sell out and i saw the same tickets on Scoopon for $20.

Anyway, it's well known he tries to influence you to signing up to buy his products or attend seminars so i didn't really expect much from my money. I just wanted to see how he persuaded people to think his products were top notch and how good of a con artist he really was.

    His performance - 10/10.
