Exactly, games already cost more than they do for local US customers, except that steam still charges us in USD.
On this logic at least those of us without a 28deg card will avoid getting ripped off by Steam and the bank at the same time.
Interestingly enough every purchase I made through seem was exactly the same as the price that was advertised so I do not understand this comment.
You pay USD with your ccard, which is subject to the current conversion rate (ripoff #1). Then, your bank usually charges a currency conversion fee of whatever% (ripoff #2).
What stickman said, but they are both the #2 ripoff in my book.
steamprices.com has a great run down of the Australia tax that make up part 1.
Hmm. Fair enough. I check my transactions pretty well and have never seen either of these. Like I said, total price I normally pay is parity with the price it was advised for.
But, if that is the case for people, yeah thats a shitty ripoff alright.
Down with steam!
Prices on Steam are USD. Unless you have a debit card linked to a bank account with USD-only currency in it, you're paying in AUD. And if that's the case, you're paying more than advertised since we're not at parity. Depending on the ccard/bank, the fee may be in the one sum, or there may be no fee at all.
Would be interesting to hear if you DON'T have any of the above… :O
Visa Credit-Debit.
Yep, I have read about everything you have spoken about and always wondered about why I can never see it.
Don't know what to tell you, everything I ever bought on Steam and on my Wii U (apparently our transactions are in the UK?, I have always paid exactly what the price said on the screen.
If its charged in US and stuff I don't get why I don't see the fees and such. I totally agree, I should see all of that crap as well.
Also, if all of those get applied and the price is USD, we are getting even more ripped off. Extra fees + massive price difference. What a joke.
Not including Steam sales who buys games from the Steam store? CD Keys are a lot cheaper and legit.
Well, Russian keys are 'legit' to a point, we aren't technically supposed to get them. If you have to VPN to use it the legitimacy is questionable.
But I pretty much agree with your point. Thats what I would do.
Um. A lot of people buy from steam outside sales. A lot of people. Nearly everyone. Literally everyone.
CD Keys can mean more than just being a cheap Russian cd key. Green man gaming does cd keys at fairly cheap prices which are legit keys, but I prefer to take the chance and buy from other sellers like G2A etc as they're usually a lot cheaper again.
EDIT: I replied to the wrong comment, this was for Heywes
I've used Green man. Great site. Not wrong their mate.
CJS and CdKeyPort are just very popular on here as I'm sure you have a noticed.
But Green man, those guys are awesome, defs recommend them to people.
I do get your point however, my point is still valid. Russians keys are becoming more common. I believe EA and Valve were considering blocking access to these keys for accounts that weren't in those countries at some point (could be remembering the wrong thing).
Come on Frank. Its not everyone one. I don't. And I have a Steam account. My mate doesn't, but his some cheap bastard that doesn't ever want to pay to begin with.
So is this ever happening, with the falling Aussie dollar it's not even worth it
I don't think it will change the situation much. We get price gouged on Steam in US dollars, now with the new change they will simply gouge us with Aussie dollars.
