I'm looking to buy a mechanical keyboard with brown switches. I live in north east Brisbane if it's relevant. Keen to get my hands on it ASAP + need to be able to return expensive keyboard in the event of failure. Not prepared to spend more than $150, hope to spend much less, but happy to pay more for a better experience. Thanks for any help!
Mechanical Keyboard (with brown switches)
Comments
Thanks, I'll check them all out.
Whether any of these are bargains is really another thing. These prices are generally pretty consistent and don't change much at all
Yeah I had a feeling this might be the case, I guess I'll just try and find reviews and judge which one is the best purchase for me, rather than buying whatevers on sale now.
You need to be more specific. Do you want backlighting? Do you want a full-sized keyboard? Do you care about size or do you want a slim profile? Do you intend to spend on accessories (ie wrist-rest or custom keycaps)?
All of these questions are important as they greatly affect choice and price.
You need to be more specific.
I was just thinking of a standard membrane keyboard, but the mechanical equivalent with browns. So yes to full sized, and only yes to the others (backlighting, slim profile, wrist-rest, custom keycaps) if they'll noticeably improve my experience with the keyboard (and still within the price range).
I have a gigabyte Osmium Aivia keyboard and is great. It has a wrist rest and is very solid. It is also very quiet for a mechanical keyboard and the usb/mic hub is a bonus. Set me back around 150 from MSY when I purchased it.
I ended up buying the Ducky Shine 3!
How is it?
Pretty good, don't think mechanical keyboards are $150 better than membrane keyboards though.
My top pick would be the Corsair K70, $159. A little bit over your price limit (sorry, I usually hate responses like this), but I believe it's worth the extra cost. This mob also posts on OzBargain and seem very active and genuine, so I think warranty would be an easy process.
Otherwise, your best bet would probably be something a bit plainer, like a CoolerMaster Quickfire (Link) or a Ducky Shine (Link). Whether any of these are bargains is really another thing. These prices are generally pretty consistent and don't change much at all, and since you need it ASAP waiting for a sale is obviously out of the question.
