The Good Guys and eBay promotions

Hi Guys,

I have contacted TGG ( after purchasing "LG WD12021D6 7kg Front Load Washer NEW")
I paid $533.04 on 22June. But looking at the current promotional of eBay Big Brand Frenzy - 20% off on 29/6-30/6 the cost of item is $501.68 So essentially I paid $31.35 extra for my order.
As per TGG " 30 Day Price Guarantee "

Thank you for your enquiry and I hope you are well.
We have been advised that our 30 Day Price Guarantee doesn't apply to eBay promotions.
This is a promotion being run by eBay only, not the Good Guys.
The promotion will apply to the order once coupon code (provided by eBay) has been entered in the redemption code area. When the you are looking at the transaction summary in your PayPal account the full amount of your purchase is shown.

Please click on the Details link to see the discount voucher applied.
You should see full amount as ‘Payment to The Good Guys’ and below that the breakdown of the payment:
• 85% for the amount ‘Charge from Credit Card’ (your account) and
• 15% from ‘Voucher’

Let us know if you still cannot see the Voucher amount in the Details screen of the transaction.
If you can also sent is a screenshot of this screen that would be much appreciate to help us confirm with eBay.

Kind Regards and I hope you have a lovely day,

    seems fair enough

Agreed… I'd look at the ebay promotion as something similar to the AMEX "statement credit" deals. A third party has chosen to wear the cost of the discount rather then the retailer themselves.

That discount wouldn't apply if you went directly to the retailer without going through the third party.

(although there may be some sort of background negotiation/agreement between the retailer and third party that we never get to see).

  • I guess that's how it works.

Yup. TGG is correct. They still get paid the same amount.

The 30 day guarantee page specifically says it doesn't apply to 'items sold on marketplace websites such as Ebay'.
So - not good news for you.

  • I bought a camera during the last Sunday ebay promo but this offer is better, have emailed them but have no reply. Decided to call the fulfilling store and they said no can do as it was an ebay thing. A bit miffed really. but reading the conditions of the price match guarantee it does not applicable to third party discounts applied.

  • @SweetStella - I bought the same washing machine as you did during the 15% promotion, and was just about to submit a claim, but luckily did a search first on OzBargain to see if anybody else was successful. Now I don't even have to bother reading all the T&C and wasting my time, as you've done the hard work for me. Thanks for letting us all know!

Luckily I think I did well over $31.35 worth of washing in the week between the deals, as we have five people who all had three weeks of washing piled up in wait after our old machine broke down, trying to have it repaired, couldn't find parts etc etc. I still ended up with a good deal, and the family is very happy with the machine. Haven't quite decided if the music it plays when it's finished a load is cute or annoying, but it can be turned off anyway according to the manual.
