I was looking to buy some good trail running/hiking shoes for a trip overseas soon… These fitted the best & were the comfiest in store.

This was the cheapest price i could find on the net.

Pretty good deal since they are the 2014 model and most australian stores only discounting to around $170-150 ATM.

Also noticed these are a very popular shoe overall with some great reviews. The only gripe being the shoelace which uses a unique system meaning you cant just buy any old laces to replace them once they break. The shoelaces are made out of Kevlar though, so should last a fair while.
It is possible to buy replacements online etc.

  • Do you happen to know which store in Australia stock these particular shoes to try them on to check the size ?

  • I went into mountain designs and tried them on :)

    Paddy Pallin also stock them

  • Oh god, the memories are flushing back.

I ordered a pair of these for $50 thinking I got the deal of the century from this bargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/113216

But they mixed up the order and sent me salmon sandals instead, giving these shoes to some lucky guy. At least they gave me a refund.

I also read about how stiff these were and hence weren't suitable for jogging from amazon reviews.

IMO the GTX version is a better buy. I've used several pairs for hiking.

Also, cheaper to pay with 28 degrees card in GBP with both CRC and Wiggle.

Depends on what you want them for i guess…

I will be going to SE Asia in January and did not want a GTX shoe as they can get very hot. Also, once water gets inside a GTX shoe it can be very hard to get out again. Plus they do not dry as quickly.

My son has the gtx for hiking in qld. Not hot at all and water is fine, they dry quick but are waterproof/ gortex. He's never had a problem and lace system is still excellent.
So much so the other team members have bought pairs this year.

  • My son has the top model of these from start of 2013. Great shoe and has done a heap of hiking.
Watch sizes though, different to other brand hiking shoes he has had.
