  • anyone tried this ? Is it worth it ( even after the 30$ discount ? )

Yes. The food is very nice. Good quality ingredients. Easy recipes. It's all pre-portioned, feels like you're on your own cooking show.

  • Check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HelloFreshAU

    • A few complaints about delivery issues - delivered day after stated resulting in seafood left in sun all day!

Seems to bring out the MasterChef in its customers, or is it this business just attracts people who like the idea of making a meal from mystery ingredients? See the selfies.

$69 for a one off vege box, with 3 meals for 2 people. And you have to cook it yourself.
    Why not just order takeaway?

    • This concept probably isn't for you.

Who is it's target market then?

I can only think of people who want to show off their cooking skills (Need to share - selfie time!) when they don't really have any. Time poor can organise ingredients (or even prepared meals) delivered cheaper than this at a more convenient delivery time. But I am being a bit harsh.

On OzBargain, it seems most are interested in prepared fast food & sugary drinks, at a bargain price. Definitely not this target market.

Problem is you don't seem to know what meals will be delivered. Not everyone likes the same. There seems no way to make a choice, except not to buy.

It's like being taken to a random restaurant without knowing the type of food served, & not being able to choose from the menu! We choose - trust us or "No soup for you!".

Except you cook , pay the bills for cooking, refrigeration, etc & they charge you nearly $10pp for the mystery ingredients! And they choose when you will receive the delivery over many hours you may not be home.

Strange concept. If it works, the supermarkets should copy it by giving you randomly filled shopping carts & their "feed a family for $10" recipe suggestions.

  • From their FB this week's meal feedback "loved chilli prawn pizza last night. Can't wait for paprika chicken tonight".

Shellfish rules out a few religions & those allergic to it. Pizza is off limits to others (diets, gluten intolerant), and some may not have necessary oven & trays (eg tiny apartments with microwave & cooktop)…

Many people in Austalia are picky about what they eat, so may not suit most.

This supplier is not aiming at the budget, market. But even at 6 mystery ingredient serves for $34 delivered, I'm not sure this is a good deal (for me).

I'm off to cook a nutritious lunch with ingredients bought & delivered at less than half that cost. (No selfies of the meal posted to FB from me, like on their FB.)

  • And the thought of so many people in this country cooking the same meal with the exact same ingredients on the same night smacks of totalitarianism.

That may have been necessary in countries with food rationing 60+ years back, but not now.

I thought part of the joy of cooking was in the creativity, knowledge of foods & their combinations, plus the ingenuity of using great but cheap usually in season local ingredients, into a wonderful dish to share.

This idea is on a level with paint-by-numbers making you into an artist - it may happen.

      Hardly totalitarianism.
You arent forcd to order from them and they have a minute part of the market.

More like a mystery tour or cookng for the lazy.
