Good Food & Wine Show 2014: Questions & Advice

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask a quick question about the Good Food and Wine Show in Melbourne several weeks back, as I will be going to the Sydney one this weekend.

How did it work with buying drinks and tasting? Do you buy a bunch of tickets? How much were they? Worth it?

Any other overall advice for the show?

All are welcome to post more questions below, and hopefully our Melbourne-counterparts, or those who went in previous years, can answer. Cheers!

  • I've been going to the Melbourne show for years, really enjoy it.

For wine (and other drink) tastings, you essentially buy a tasting glass for $5 and the vast majority of tastings are free. For some exhibitors you pay a nominal amount for a tasting, as often then this amount will be taken off the purchase price of anything you buy.

Take a bag with you for handouts, etc. Some people even take a trolley with them but I hate the trolley people. They get in the way and hit me in the shins with their trollies. Grrrr.

    Enjoy yourself!

  • Buy a tasting glass $5 (or bring your own). Almost all exhibitors have free tastings and are very generous and do not really pressure you to buy. You can easily get your fill of free grog if you so choose :)

There are lots of free classes and a few you have to pay extra for. I think I read on the website there is a free wine tasting and food pairing class this year.

It is a good show, just walk around, try everything and you will have a nice time.
