Bought 60" Plasma online from the Good Guys - was delivered a used TV

I ordered a 60" LG Plasma TV from the Good Guys last week. It was a clearance model on sale for $999. A standard 1080 model.

It was delivered yesterday and it has definitely been used/opened:

  • Box did not have the plastic packing straps around it
  • Batteries were already in the remote
  • Base stand screw mounts clearly used and just in the bag with the manual
  • Finger marks on the panel.

I'm going to ring them about this a bit later today, as It did not state anywhere online that it was open box.

The TV in question is this one (no longer on TGG's website):

The TV works fine, besides a bit of buzzing when on a white screen. Do you recon I can get a credit or anything?

    FIRST…
Call them and report it to them. At this stage don't demand anything, just see what the reaction and excuse is. Politely explain that you purchased a new unused set.

    Go from there……..

It is most likely a demo or customer returned item?

like what xywolap said. Are you sure you didn't just misread he description, and in fact bought a clearance, heavily discounted ex-display model? Only noting that because you said its also no longer listed

    Agree with above.

You may wish to also mention that it is on sale elsewhere for the same price (as per the Betta link), and you can get it elsewhere brand new, so being reduced is not an excuse for it not being new.

And you should probably have a think about what outcome you want before you ring them - do you want a refund? (if so, how is the item to be returned?), do you want a discount for it being a demo? (if so, what reasonable amount would make you happy?) etc.
