One of the fastest paths to success is starting a new project like a business, blog, book or some other creative endeavor. Side projects can result in extra income, greater fulfillment and even a more enjoyable career. If you aren't creating something in your spare time, you aren't reaching your full potential.

Unfortunately, most people can't find the time, energy or correct life priorities to start and complete creative side projects. They keep putting off planning these projects, never finding out what they could have accomplished if they'd only created something.

Author Bryan Cohen is no stranger to creative productivity. He's earned more than $35,000 in the past few years from his side business, Build Creative Writing Ideas. His 30 books, all of which were written in the past few years, have sold more than 20,000 copies. He achieved this success through the life-enriching tips he learned by reading dozens of books, attending multiple conferences and through his own trial and error.

He's put in hundreds of hours of refining his creativity techniques so that you don't have to. By using Cohen's tips and tricks, you'll start planning your business, book, blog or course in the next few days with optimized time, renewed energy and an improved balance in your life.

      Ask others for help.

Strangely, that "common sense" idea is often ignored. As in this case, people think I don't need to be told that - everyone knows that, it's common sense!

One thing that is drummed into students of undergrad Psychology is "common sense" isn't usually that common ;-)

When I suggest it, most say "Oh, I couldn't do that.", or it's a sign of weakness. (My old client list included a Minister of a State Government, state manager of a multinational, etc. I always wondered why intelligent people paid me hundreds of dollars per hour for "common sense" advice.)

It's one of my main tips for cheap overseas travel, which a lot of people say they wouldn't do or never thought of.
(Asked a frequent travel friend if they had a spare airline ticket to China. Sure - free Cathay Pacific return ticket for 2 to Hong Kong! Like a lot of hard workers, she was too busy to use it.)
(And there is always the hitchhiking I regularly do in rural Japan - like a 2 day lift, food, drink, laughs, & hotel accommodation, with 10 English speaking museum guides being trained about an historic mountain village I wanted to learn about. Was given $200 on the second day, as they considered I deserved it as they had enjoyed themselves so much more. All from that universal symbol of a thumb out - to Ask others for help!)

My main advice to a businessman the other week, was to tap into his friends & customers to help him grow his customer base & profits - to Ask others for help!

And then there are mentoring programs, internships, etc. It just seems less overt & more structured, but still is to Ask others for help!

On OzBargain we see requests to like on FB, generating sales through a good deal, use my referee code so we both benefit, etc. Posting a comment or voting is the same - OzBargain relies for its existence & income on Ask others for help!

And this $1 book is offered free to move it up the list of sought after "purchases" before it goes back to full price with lots more opportunity to be noticed & sold. (Even if you don't read it!) Once you buy, you are more likely to buy his course & other products. The author was doing what he preaches - to Ask others for help!

(The OP by posting this deal and anyone who downloaded a copy just helped out - it's not a one-way process as those helping often benefit.)

Its about the number 1 tip in business!!

Of course that was not an endorsement of this book, as I have not read it.

All customer loyalty programs are asking their customers to help the business make more money.
Brand loyalty is expensive to achieve, but again that is asking for your help in not buying from competitors, without any extrinsic benefit to you & has likely lightened your wallet.
Focus groups, marketers, consultants are other ways of paying others to help.

Asking others for help takes so many forms & is highly profitable - just look at the most profitable part of Qantas, it's Points Program! It's there to benefit the business.

  • "Useless and filled with common sense" said it all.

That sounds like a review of most TV how-to or advice shows, or expensive seminars. Most of it you already know.

Reinforcing what you already think or believe is a very profitable business. It's just a matter of packaging it differently.

(Years ago as an undergrad student, I repackaged uni courses back to students studying the subject, at a profit of $250/hr. That was over 3 times what I earned lecturing.
I didn't even have a degree, but I knew how to help people learn & marketed my classes when I knew there was most need.
My students loved the classes, & thought it was fantastic value. Many of the high achievers were first to sign up. Classes of 25 students sold out in hours to a few days.
Others ideologically opposed charging for my add-on help, and lecturers tried to ban me because I showed up the inadequacy of their teaching. A right-wing student newspaper decried me as a Socialist, and the Anarchist one attacked back that I was the biggest Capitalist on Campus - and I was friends with both groups!
Instead, the university's legal officer supported me & I was made a consultant in improving teaching while operating my private business on campus. Most students don't get their own uni office & have the secretary take their call when they're studying in class!
And some people who can't imagine anyone doing that just call BS. It's sad how we limit our own potential conforming to what has already been done.)

Taking a path less travelled won't usually receive popular acclaim in the short term, but can be highly profitable if you find the appropriate niche market. You certainly won't have many competitors to worry about. That's from personal experience, which I then sold again though my consulting business :-)

Truely unique solutions are usually ridiculed & fail, waiting for thoughts to change. You get crucified if you don't push accepted wisdom ;-)
