Yeah, I accidentally forgot to disable auto-renew on a domain, but once they charged me and I contacted them right away I managed to get refunded so I've had ~$30 sitting in my account in credit and these cheap registration coupons have come in handy for years to come.
Will I also get a static IP for my .com domain as well?
What do you mean? The static IP would be from the (web) server, not the domain name. You simply redirect the domain to the server's IP (DNS).
You're right. I've got mixed up with the hosting service. Please ignore my above post. Thanks!
GoDaddy are dodgy. Is it worth getting a domain a little cheaper to support shit like this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_Daddy#Controversies
Yeah it cheap upfront but then to renew it $30
I made this mistake last year
RUN….. DROP EVERYTHING AND RUN
The most annoying thing about GoDaddy is the 'urgent' emails that your domain is expiring in a few months. It brainwashed me into ignoring them, then of course I missed an important renewal costing me $90 to recover it.
Block-quote once the year is up just transfer to another registrar, if you want.
You might not even have to wait near a year, when I transferred out of GoDaddy I kept the time I had remaining. So you could transfer as soon as you find a deal on transfers :)
I transferred to Hover.
Should be cheaper coupons around. Used a different one yesterday for 1.95 or 1.99USD.
