D40A Torch Faulty, Replacement Sent by Banggood Also Faulty. Thoughts Please.

Hi,
In April I noticed on Ozbargain a good deal from Banggood for the Sunwayman D40A torch so decided to buy.

The first torch they sent did not work. The replacement they sent does not work.

I have tried using Imedion,Eneloop and new non rechargeable batteries.

Has anyone else experienced problems with this torch ? What should I do ?

Thanks,
Hibbo

  • You could certainly have been unlucky and indeed have received two dead ones, but just on the offchance that it hasn't dawned - have you cleaned all of the contacts?
Doesn't take more than a very thin film of tarnish or smear of grease to cause problems.

Not sure how active the rep is now but back when i had a probem it was solved in less then a day. I uploaded a youtube video of the problem and they issued me a partial refund (charger of the torch set i got wasn't working)

  • Often, when a torch doesn't work, there is a problem with the switch. Are you able to pop off the switch and then use a paperclip to connect the (negertive ?) terminal of the battery to the metal shell of the torch. If it turns on, it means the switch is faulty. Although I'm not sure if this is possible with multiple cell torches.

btw, did you have have to ship the first faulty torch back to Banggood at your expense ?

  • Some guy on another forum had problems with his D40 and it ended up being the battery section was not tighened enough so worth checking that.

  • Thanks for your informative responses.

I did not send faulty torch back first, they asked for this to be done. I told them I would after I received a replacement torch. My 360 positive ebay feedback was used to convince them I could be trusted. Using Aust Post it costs $18 with a tracking no.

I sent them a youtube video of the torch not working. They told me they didn't have the means to watch a youtube video.

Tightening battery section and cleaning contacts and has not helped. As suggested, I will try the paper clip.

Once again, THANK YOU for your thoughts.

  • Do you have a multimeter? If so you should be getting around 5.2VDC at the battery holder (Mine was 5.24VDC with 4 x Eneloops). I would also suggest putting some thin (1mm) paper/cardboard at the bottom of the battery holder so you can be sure the outer negative ring of the battery holder is making contact when housing is fully tightened.

  • Might not be relevant to the topic but I order a power bank from Banggood on June 1st. Tracking says it is now in Netherlands, the destination country (WTF)…… Any chance I claim it back?

    • They use the cheapest postage. So using NL or Swedish post is not so uncommon.

      • I got it a few days ago. But what suprised me is it had to travel to EU from HK, then AU……
