  • I think you are talking about two different things.

My friend who is a 'reknowned' dental surgeon (he gets asked to give lectures and on-call to look after the high price actors for Warner Bros) said never use tooth paste with baking soda as it's just too abrasive.

Tartar is different to teeth whitening. According to my dentist, I apparently produce a lot of tartar, above average. She saids to floss more frequently to minimise build up.

My dental surgeon friend told me to use electric tooth brush, and I've never looked back. I pack a normal tooth brush when I travel, and it never feels 'clean' with it now and feel weird using a normal tooth brush.

    • okay sorry for the confusion. my teeth is a bit yellow and i need to know the best teeth whitening method.

and i dont believe your dentist friend because he wants people to believe the only way to whiten teeth is to fork out $500 or so at a dental clinic.

  • I've looked around as well and from my brief research it seems to all come down to what your teeth are like and how permanent you want the whitening.

Regardless, for something like this, it's probably best to consult a dentist rather than an Ozbargain forum ;)

  • I heard that Colgate whitening works by abrasively removing enamel, giving the impression of white teeth. But you can't get enamel back once it is gone.

I have an Oral-B Triumph electric toothbrush. Not cheap but the only time my teeth feel that clean is after forking out $$ at the dentist. Using a regular toothbrush never feels that clean.

  • okay. i used the baking soda and this stuff works instantly the first time.

i did use the colgate whitening toothpaste before trying this and my teeth was really sensitive. i thought it was gonna fall out. so far no problem with the baking soda and im planning to use it once a week.

  • I used to use whiteglo for a long time but have had a lot of cavities in recent years I am now wondering if it was too abrasive. :|

  • i heard brushing teeth and a good diet keeps your teeth white :)

  • I floss my teeth and then use a cap full of 6% Hydrogen Peroxide (about $3.50 for 100ml from your average chemist) & a Braun ultra-sonic electric toothbrush for 2 minutes while I'm having a shower or pottering about.

Swish it around inside your mouth. At first it will foam up and you'll look like a rabid dog. But if you spit that out after a minute or so brushing and have another small swig, it will foam less.

You'll notice a difference within a week, or even a few days. Also, some people claim this is very effective for gum disease & mouths ulcer.

********* PLEASE NOTE: This is what I DO!!!!
And NOT a recommendation of what YOU should do.
You should do what you feel is best.
After you've done your research, of course. *********
