Check engine light came up yesterday on my holden barina 2006. never had any problems so far with the car. went to the mechanic today with the problem and he said that as per the fault code, it was "camshaft sensor" that needs to be replaced. it seems that he has cleared the fault and the problem hasnt comeback since but I am suspecting that it could return any day. I have done some reading on google about this issue and it seems that if the sensor was to fail completely, the car wouldnt start. Does some one know if it is easier to replace the sensor on this model of the car? I found videos on youtube with some cars requiring lots of items to be taken off before getting to the sensor and for others, it was 10 min job. also, does someone know as to where can i get cheap OBD2 reader? it seems that it is worth having this as it could save trip to the mechanic sometime. any help/suggestions welcome. also, does some one have any tips on how to find part number of the sensor? do I call holden and ask or any other tricks?

thanks for clarification as to what it is called…. what would i do when i find out name of the engine???
If you have an android smart phone, you can use TORQUE and a ELM327 bluetooth interface from ebay or aliexpress for under $8.
aliexpress is a bit cheaper than ebay
But keep in mind its going to be 2-3 weeks to wait for this to arrive.
Check the cleanliness of the plug connection to the wiring loom first. Might be a dicky/oily connection and could explain the glitch the ECU logged.
its been three days since mechanic has reset the fault and the fault hasnt come back since…i am hoping that it will not return any time soon…..
thanks everyone who replied…its been three days since mechanic has reset the fault and the fault hasnt come back since…i am hoping that it will not return any time soon…..
does anyone know where can i get parts book or list of parts for holden barina?… i suspect that the holden dealers would charge 4 to 5 times higher than parts that can be bought online…the car is about 7 years old so i would like to minimise my spend on it to keep it running….
In Australia that would be a 2006 Holden Barina.
check the cars build plate to find the model name of your engine.
