Dental Care

Hi Everyone,

I need braces on my teeth and some cleaning - can you recommend a good dentist in Sydney or the inner/Western Suburbs.

My previous dentist damaged the nerves in his hand while gardening and is not allowed to practice anymore.

Thank you

long way to go to get my braces adjusted every few months :o)

  • why can't you get them adjusted here?

    • Saw this on a dental page that I frequent, from Australian dentists and orthodontists talking about ortho cases done/commenced overseas, with the dentist knowing that the patient will not be coming back regularly for follow up:

"Why on earth would an overseas dentist/ ortho offer their services knowing very well it needs many follow up appointments?"

"Easy buck made - whack on some brackets, charge $1000usd and don't care where the brackets go and where the patient goes there after! Forget income tax on it too! They get told the hard bit is done and the dentist/Ortho can finish it up at home…. Patient assumes that the most expensive bit (brackets) are done and the check ups are free or cost less"

"My standard line is - where is your referral letter from your previous dentist/orthodontist? Of course they have none (most of the time - its not always bad) then realise there is a problem when they try to get one and their dodgy previous dentist is uncooperative. Chargewise I usually tell them my full fee to deband and restart case explaining putting the braces on is not a huge part of the treatment and I don't wanna carry on someone elses treatment plan which they can't even provide me a copy of anyway."

And so on and so forth. I'm not going to get in to the argument that we cost too much, etc, etc. Healthcare is not for the most part, a commodity that can and should be OzBargained, and I'm afraid a majority of you who have done so will find out the hard way. There are always exceptions either way, but painting with a broad brush, that is what we see as the Australian dental community.
