About the biggest ive seen are these:

As for storage, cheapest is MSY or uMart avoid ebay, too many fakes to trick people if you're asking this sort of question :)

If durability, not physical size is your concern, look into a 2.5" SATA HDD caddy, and an SSD drive.

Ive seen 256GB USB sticks show up recently.

Keep in mind, stuff over 32GB is going to be in ExFAT, NTFS, etc. So depending on your environment, you might want to consider a 'smaller' one.

For example, they wont work in most cars.

  • Thanks - I am looking to save movies for my sons portable DVD player. Sick of the CDs getting scratched so just want to save as many as possible to a thumb drive. Thanks for advice

    • In that case, 32GB will be your limit.
Its very unlikely that the player will handle any format other than FAT32.

Windows 7\8 will do FAT32 @32GB, Linux will format bigger (but be readble in windows).

If you can confirm ExFAT is an option for that player (or NTFS), then you can get ANY size you want.

Get an SSD and external case :)

Amazon sells a Kingston Digital HyperX Predator DataTraveler 512GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (DTHXP30/512GB).

    List Price: $1,750.00
    Price: $464.99 & FREE Shipping
    You Save: $1,285.01 (73%)

Should probably post as a deal!

    • They sell a 1TB model on the same page for $894.99. Lucky its USB3.

  • So something like this wouldn't be any good - cheap & nasty then ?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TongYon-128GB-128-G-USB-2-0-Flash…

    • Huge warning on these:

"Fake Flash" refers to low capacity flash drives (and memory cards) that have been "hacked" so that they appear to have much more capacity than is physically present on the drive. [eBay guide]

I don't know this seller but given the price its almost certainly one of the many scams on eBay with flash memory. Usually you get a 4gb or 8gb drive (or possibly 64mb) masquerading as something larger and it corrupts as soon as you exceed this limit.

      Caveat emptor.

    • I already said avoid ebay, Ive ben doing this sort of work for 13 years. Ive only seen ONE real card come from ebay (that wasnt a big stores ebay 'shop').

the card worked great! untill it got ALMOST full and failed tremendously.

  • Ok great thanks will give MSY a visit

  • I hate to say this but Kogan have a 256Gb one for $175 with free shipping. A friend has one and hasn't complained about any problems. :)

I have 3 128Gb ones from Kogan and they, surprisingly, work fine. I picked them up for $79 post free a while ago, USB3 of course. I use them all the time and they are fast in a USB3 port :)

    • Just remember, Kogan "free shipping" is only free to a limited number of destinations. If you're one of the lucky ones, then you can take advantage of Kogan deals. If not, you rank as part of the new underclass known as "Kogan's Losers".
