Best way to get foreign currency?

Hey guys I will be heading to Europe soon and was wondering where I would be able to get the best rate for mah aussie dorrah.

I have the citibank plus transaction and a 28 degrees Mastercard. Was wondering if I should just use the citibank card to withdraw cash ?

Thanks

  • I preload my 28 degree's and take like a few hundred aussie cash to be safe. Went to Hong kong once and my 28 degrees has issues took a couple of days to sort out. Cash came in handy for that time. Then it was all good, easily the best rate available

      You better think again, as of January you pay a fee for withdrawal of cash with 28 degrees. So that strategy is not the best now.

      You have answered your question yourself.

      Credit transaction - 28 Degreees
      Cash Transaction/withdrawal - Citibank Plus

      • Admittedly I haven't been overseas for a year, didn't know this thanks

    28 degrees now charge a withdrawal fee. Even if your account is in credit. :(

    Citibank Plus card at an ATM is the way to go.

    Uaeexchange outlets are everywhere and they seem to give better exchange rates….somewhat close to xe.

    • I think KVB Kunlun gives you a better rate than UAEexchange, they only do major currencies though. Also there is a Arab bank near circular quay in Sydney, I noticed they normally gave a better rate than UAEexchange as well.

      UAE is pretty good. I used them last time before I went overseas. They're almost the same as the Visa exchange rate

      ie UAE 1 AU <-> 0.9303 USD
      CitiBank 1 AU <-> 0.9373 USD
      XE 1 AU <-> 0.9377 USD

      Numbers accurate at time of posting.

      Just beware that with overseas ATM, Citibank won't charge you any bank fees, but the ATM itself may charge a service fee.
