  • Fast and large! A wonderful combination, and at a good price.

I sure crave a good large fast drive in my ports every once and a while ;).

  • Ooo, I see they now have a 256GB. Will be keeping my eye out for a deal on it.

A few posts in that last deal about corrupted data, not recognising properly and crap build quality. So if you're willing to ignore these minor issues and focus on the positives of the product then it's a good deal.

    • Yea, mine has problems.

      Worked fine initially.
Not so after filling it to capacity and formatting a few times (with the slow Windows option) to make sure it was ok under heavy usage.

For anyone who gets one, or already has one, might be worth stress testing it.

Man, am not willing to risk my data to save money. Will pass on this.

These are total rubbish - flimsy and unreliable. For a few dollars more look out for specials on other more reliable brands like Corsair…

Seems like PNY has quality issues. Used good quality components to get 5 star ratings, then changed.

See this : Kingston and PNY caught bait-and-switching cheaper components after good reviews

edit: I see also posted below.

Good deal, fast drive (except for small files).

    Slightly offtopic http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/184253-ssd-shadiness-king…

    • To be fair, it's primarily an article about kingston Kingston cutting corners and reducing performance to save money.

PNY changed parts but these parts actually improved performance (ever so slightly). That said, it is still a silent switch but of minor benefit.

      • my concern is they've overstepped the mark once.. have they done it before, will they do it again.

  • Got mine last time. Great drive, nice and speedy. I formatted mine with exFAT and put a Win8.1PE image on it — boots up a recovery OS in less than a minute…and with 123+GB left for everything else…

Build quality is OK — the slider is crap but the rest is solid.

  • 256GB is only 109.99USD delivered. 185MB/s read and 135MB/s write

I highly suggest you read the following article,
    http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/184253-ssd-shadiness-king…

    Let me summarise :-

Once a product is reviewed, PNY is switching components for cheaper ones. Buyer beware.

To echo similar posts - I've had mine for about 2 weeks and now about 50% of the time it now longer is recognised by my Macbook Pro Retina. I've reformatted in different filesystems etc..
It seems to be hardware-ish as when you plug it in the indicator light flashes and then goes dead when it doesn't work.
If I plug it into a USB 2 hub, it always works, but anything USB 3.0 is hit and miss.

I'm going to wipe it and send it back to Amazon - as its just not reliable. - Unfortunately, considering the price.

  • Love these prices for huge usb keys. Pushes-down prices for what I need… 16GB USB3 keys for dual-layer OS images. 8GB is a whisker too small.

  • I bought 1 during the last discount. Kicked myself for not getting 2…

But now reading the below thread of switching components, i wonder if PNY flash drvies are a part of it

  • Turbo? What's the peak boost in psi? At which rpm can I expect it to peak?
