You'll need to be more specific, OP.
What kind of coat or jacket are you after? Dressy types or casual? Waist length or longer? What sort of material? What sort of style?
I'd love to give you some tips but I don't even know where to start lol. I've got a range of jackets and coats, ranging from a cute and insanely warm quilted, slightly puffy hooded jacket I got from Valleygirl years ago for less than $20 lol. Haven't found it anywhere since.
For dressy/formal occasions I'm currently wearing a Tokito coat I bought from Myer last year on sale for $99. Many people have complimented me on it. It's very well made and very warm and stylish. So cheap for what it is.
If you just want casual, cheap, warm stuff then shops like Tempt can be good but it's a matter of luck with places like that. Sometimes you'll find a gem for cheap, other times all the stock is horrendous lol.
I find Myer overpriced and generally have pretty ugly stock. When the big sales are on, you'd be lucky to find anything that nice (either they fly out the doors at the start of the sale, or the store hides the good stuff out back during sales lol). Miss Shop and Tokito can have some decent jackets/coats though.
I saw a few gorgeous Review coats at Myer yesterday at $299 minus 25%. Still pricey but they were beautiful, heavy and warm.
Really depends on what you've got in mind though :)
have you tried Ezibuy? recently there was a post with $20 off + free delivery for orders more than $50 with a code. i got a puffer jacket (original price was $130), reduced to $65. got it for $45. very nice and warm.
